It would depend on how much the vehicle weighs. I had one in a D-600 w/361 and held up fine for years sometimes weighing over 30k. Ive ran them in pickups with 400-500 hp and they did fine but the big clutch doesnt like disengaging at high rpm. I would think it's as strong as a 18 spline.

I broke the mainshaft in my '86 W250 with a 550 hp 440 in front of it. That was truck pulling though. Truck started bouncing at the end of the track and it snapped. If you are not going to pull it, You should be ok.

This Super Stock pulling truck (6200lbs) runs a 530cid rated at 900hp or a little more I think, and he runs the NP435 4th gear (1:1) dual disc clutch with a Profab reverser (choose your gearset) transfer case and rockwell 1 speed rear end, and has been running if for 15-18yrs and hasn't broken it yet! I think that's amazing..!

I had one & everything hooked behind it broke until it got 60's then it was mostly drive shafts & transfercase Ripped the center out of a stock clutch once Survived drunken 4 wheel burnouts with 44's

I've got a buddy that used to go clutchless with his Imagine a guy who can lift & is strong snatching a shorty 435 shifter at 6500 RPM

IMHO the clutch(unless you are putting a twin disc in) will not handle as much abuse as the NP435 will. Everything else around it will fail first in most instances. I understand that in a larger truck application that a larger input shaft was available. If you haven't purchased a clutch yet, you might look into that......but in all reality, I would not worry one iota about it. Fill it with oil and run it.

The only one I ever saw broke was broken at the shifter. The fool had a messed up clutch so he would start the truck in neutral and force it into gear to get moving and power shifted from there, up and down through the gears. After about a year (no lie, nearly a full year) he broke the shifter lever, which someone welded back together for him 2 times. He brought the shifter handle to me and I fixed it good enough he finally broke the shifter tower off the top of the trans.
Those transmissions are tough. Gene
