Pulled the trigger after quite a dilemma. New baby 99% rust free 277k Cummins & auto. Needs at least a short block due to hole in block. Wife may not be real happy with the news.

That has happened to wives in the past.

Current & last wife(She who has lasted the longest)generally hasn't objected too much so I haven't had to over rule her too many times
When I have she came around to my way of thinking once they got washed & waxed

Good Luck! Hurry up & fix the engine You may need the heater & sleeping space

Good thing about MoParts is that someone always comes up with a solution Broke the news to wife. Not as bad as it could have been but man it is like 20 degrees right so perhaps I should have while in case you are right.

Quad cab so 98 or newer... did you find a "rare" quad cab 12 valve Cummins? ....or is it a 24 valve. Do yourself a huge favor and overhaul/upgrade the trans when you have it apart. Call Dave Goerend for your trans parts/converter. You'll be glad you did!

Yes it is thr "rare" 98 QC with 12 valve. What makes it almost unseen here in the rust belt of n.e. Ohio is the solid sheet metal. I plan on having tranny gone through while transplant takes place. Fluid still pink but with engine locked and hole in the block test drive was out of the question.

Looks nice Rick. I would refer to that as a "score"...

Can't get totally accurate history since owner has dementia. Son states that owner LOVED to drive. He was also a big ham radio guy so between that and the CB stuff there is a mile of cable in the cab.

Rick, Looks to me like the rod bolts just came loose and fell out. Has anybody been into that motor previously? 12 valves have forged rods and are tough as nails.

Thanks for the reply. I have no idea or any way of finding out who did what or when it was done Trying to get truck to shop for tear down, dissection, and determination of cause of death.
