3:23 about just to drive around no mud womping or hard use. Just for get up and go....

Just stick with a stock converter.

That was not much help, guess you just needed to say something. It has a 1600-stall and can't make any power, was thinking 2200. Anyone have any real info to share??

I'm sorry you didn't think that was helpful but what I was saying is you aren't going to gain power by changing to a higher stall if you are running a stock motor and trans set up. That's as real as it gets. 
You want more power then look at spending your money for a carb and intake swap. Or possibly a cam change and a good exhaust system. For better get up and go there are better places to spend your cash than a converter swap. Considering you haven't even got it together why do you think the combo won't run like you want it to?

I think the 340 had a pretty good stall, close to 2000 or something like that.

340's weren't exactly torque monsters, a good quality 3000 stall converter would probably help it off the line in a heavy 4x4, without causing to much heat

A factory hi - stall would probably get ya in that range. I think around here they can be picked up from the rebuilders for about $100. I had a '78 318 Trailduster that I put an 85 cop car top end (heads, intake, carb) on and used the factory hi-stall and it was at about 2100-2200 IIRC. Still great street manners and it picked up from 68 to 80 MPH (1/4 mi) for the whole swap.

If you want get up and go just adding a higher stall is kinda pointless. Swap gears too. With the current ratio the higher stall probably won't really make much of a difference

As stumpy stated how do you know it won't perform? It'll be alt better than a 318.
What size turns you plan to run? Another factor.
If you want if the libel launches 4.56 gears and a 3000-3500 stall.
Neck just a gear swap to 3.91 to 4.10s would be better than a stall swap.
I had a high stall converter I had planned to use but was pointless do to the highway gears(3.23s)

Actually, that was the best sdvice you'll get but the term "factory converter" is little ambiguous...the stock factory 340 converter is an 11" high-stall and should stall at 2250-2450 behind a stock 340.

Yeah, the 600-700 RPM increase in stall will probably get about 50-75ft/lbs deeper into the powerband, which should help "launch". I don't agree with swapping in deep gears and killing overall driveability for an occasional better launch. 3.55's would be nice, but I don't think worth the cost unless I was buying a gear anyways. And all this is baised on a 28" tire - taller tires would require more gear.

A 28" tall tire will be small on this rig even though some called for 195/75s. A 235/75 is roughly 29.4" tall depending on maker but I have that object my 5th ave.

My 89 2wd shortbox with a 318/727 will break loose the 31x10.50s it had in the rear(peg leg) and our 2wd Rc wouldn't. 89 has 3.5s and the Rc had 3.23s both rabid 31s in the rear
