'98 truck lifters

Does a Dodge truck 360 engine have flat tappet lifters or roller lifters?

It'll need an oil change soon and I'm about out of the good oil from a couple years ago, so I need to figure which oil it can use. I'm sure it can use whatever I buy that is good for the flat tappet cams of the rest of my vehicles that are '76 and older.

Starting in about 1988 ('87 for cars) all vehicles with V-8's got the roller lifters.

So to answer your question, yes, you have rollers. Use any oil you wish.

not quite...

cars got roller cams in 2bbls in '85....4bbl never got roller cams...

trucks, they got roller cams when they got TBI....IIRC '88 for 318, '89 for 360....if it's a TBI, it's a roller cam.

btw, '98 is a magnum....definitely roller cam

Does anyone know if the
light weight Viper V10 roller lifter redesign
that came out four years ago
will fit the 5.2/5.9 v8 truck engines?

are the roller lifters in the
Hemi 5.7
similar to the older
3.9/5.2/5.9 lifters?

Yes, the lightweight Viper V10 lifters are a drop in fit to the 5.2/5.9 motors. I've not done it myself, but a very experienced "old timer" on the Dakota forum has done it.
