Battery powered tire air pumps

Battery powered tire air pumps - 03/22/24 09:30 PM

It gets a little annoying dealing with flats in inconvenient locations so I was thinking of getting a small li-ion battery powered compressor.

Reviews frequently say many models won't fill up a tire or takes too long.

I was thinking of Craftsman for the price but anyone have good or bad reviews?

I was shopping around for one too and had same concern; waiting forever to fill up a tire. I ended up spending more than planned but I think it's worth it. About $200 with inflator, battery and charger (unless you already have a Dewalt charger and battery)

They don't work for crap if it's below freezing and you kept it in the truck.

That said, I have a Milwaukee M12 that uses the same batteries as my other cordless tools. It'll top off the truck tires no sweat, assuming it's warm enough, lol.

To be honest, I bought a HF jump pack for my lawn tractor and they had one that also included a tire inflator, might be something to think about if you are thinking about getting a jump pack too.

we have a couple, but the one we mainly keep handy is one that plugs into the lighter port to power it.
works, takes a while, and one of the 2 heats up pretty good, but it won't run out of juice. just has a really long cable for the lighter plug.
I think one has battery clamps too, but never bothered.

The 2022 Brand C work truck has no lighter ports, guess when I found that out? Anyway, OP isn't asking about those.

I've had two smaller rechargeable pumps that I bought off amazon. Initially I intended to use it just for my bicycle, but they worked on the car as well (albeit slowly)

This first one has more then doubled in price since I bought it in 2022, Would I pay the new, higher price? No, but for the $32.xx I originally paid I would. This thing was a trooper. I got a pin hole in the sidewall of my tire (toyota corolla) shortly after I bought the tires. Tires didn't have the replacement coverage I thought I had gotten, and I didn't have the coin (or desire) to buy a tire at the time. EVERYDAY for 5 months, I used it to pump the tire from 15-20 PSI to 40 PSI
first thing in the morning. Would take about 6 minutes. Pump never did die, but it reached a point where it wasn't pumping 100%. Still works on my bike, forget about using it on a car now.

TGBOX tire inflator

When I went to replace the first one, it wasn't available, so I tried something different. It's louder and runs hotter than the first one did. I'm not doing daily pump ups like I did before, but if I need to add a few pounds here and there it works great.

SUNPOW tire inflator

With both of them, I was looking for something small to carry with me on my bike. With both, the charge lasts a considerable amount of time and can be charged at home or in your car. With either one, it might do a tire from dead-flat but you'd need to help it some by taking the weight off the tire. Even so, plan on being there awhile. Keep in mind, I'm talking 'normal' sized car tire, not some monster mudder tire or semi truck tires.

I'd never go back to a plug into a cigarette lighter small compressor.

I've had two Chinesium versions of these inflators. Both died after a couple months. If you dissect them you find a poorly designed cheap piece of crap. And that's being generous.

Wait, I though "poorly designed cheap piece of crap" was the definition of Chinesium lol

Since I’m deep into Milwaukee at work and now home I opted for the M18 tire inflator and have no complaints. It’ll top off my trailer tires from 75 to 90 psi. I like that you can set the target psi and simply walk away and let it work. Also put it in the golf cart at the race track and we carry it along on our SxS on our desert treks.

I got this one. Works pretty fast on small car tires as far as topping off. Not sure how fast it would be on a completely flat tire. Has light and usb port for phone.

I'm comparing this to a corded one that I have and it's a bit quicker.

I bought it to top off some riding lawn mower tires that lose a bit of air between mowings at my mom's house.

When a buddy showed me his Makita unit . . had to go get my own . . . my cordless tools are Makita . . . works great ! Set the pressure and it goes to that and then stops. Have used on trailer tires, truck tires, etc . . . lots of use with the 5ampHr battery . . . another tool to travel with in the trunk !

I still haven't pulled the trigger and bought one yet but I hadn't thought about higher pressure tires. All mine are 35 to 45 psi but that may not always be the case.

One reason I was looking at craftsman was the batteries. I currently have tools with 4 brands of batteries and was hoping to not add a 5th but I am liking some of the others.

Time is not too big of a deal, 5 to 10 minutes isn't a deal breaker.

Thank you all for the advice. up

I got to think the one that produces the most heat would be their downfall over time.
