"Safety is our highest priority"..." - 03/18/24 11:04 PM

"And is at the center of everything we do". According to Scott Kirby, CEO of United Airlines. laugh2
This... after MULTIPLE incidents with United planes, losing tires in mid air, after takeoff, panels flying off...
another plane skidding off the runway, during a taxi. All this, in about a week timeframe. runaway panic
I'll stay on the ground, in my own car, thank you very much.

back in the early 80's Delta airlines had a run of crashes, problems etc. I thought they should've taken advantage of them by using the slogan
"Fly Delta, We'll end your fear of flying" Just slip United in place a Delta 🤣

Outsourcing of almost all of the components, DEI, moving the headquarters to Chicago and losing most of the Seattle work force who made it what it was, and worrying about the stock holder equity rather than safety and quality is what got Boeing in the mess it is in today... tsk

Massive consolidation has led to no competition.

There used to be hundreds--even thousands of companies involved in the building of civil in this country. After all the buyouts and consolidations Boeing is the only big one left. Their only competition is Airbus.

Same happened with the airlines themselves.

Not many fender benders involving airplanes.

Can't think of anything that's fallen off or been blown off in any of my cars, going back to the '60s.
Over the decades, I've been in a couple of pretty heavy wrecks, but I can't think of anyone who's survived a mid-air collision.
In any case, I enjoy traveling by car a LOT more than by commercial aircraft.

Had the louvers blow off the back of my Daytona, but I was doing well in excess of the posted speed limit.

Never said that the public roads are perfectly safe did I? BUT....
I would rather DRIVE than have someone I don't know, or never met, or know their experience..flying a plane, and if he/she had 5-6 cocktails...or smoked a few doobies..
before climbing into the cockpit. Or if the plane itself is going to takeoff/land in one ENTIRE piece!
I'll take my chances driving my own vehicle, I know positively won't be losing parts while I'm traveling
down the road.

Exactly. Air travel may be safer than driving overall, but chances of surviving a 30,000 foot plummet at upwards of 500 miles per hour in an oversized beer can are basically nonexistent.

I'm a mechanic, I know how things are put together, just one of the reasons I don't like to fly, It's also why I don't hang out beside or behind semi trucks on the highway.

When Boeing announces a big wig has resigned or rather will resign at the end of the year it means that person is leaving with tens of millions of pocketed $$$$. There is enough internal email communication on the Max 8 debacle to where people should do prison time. Instead they get to keep their employment and big salary OR they get to jump out with a solid gold parachute.
