Moble phone, cellular, phone company, good or bad - 02/25/24 08:25 PM

I'm thinking of changing phone company and stepping up to a smart phone at the same time.
I currently have Verizon for cellular and they are expensive, I don't use the telephone very often, I do use the local broad ban company for T.V., E mail and internet as well as a home phone still so I'm thinking to switch to T mobile for all of those services, what say you that are using T Moblie?
How about other companies also work
All help will be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance up bow

Consumer Cellular - hands-down.

Consumer cellular customer service is bad. Also, don't try bringing any phone from another company to start service with CC. It will work sometimes but the service is flawless once you purchase one of their phones. Strange how that works, huh?
Also you have to go to deal with CC mouth-breathers at your local Target if you don't want to deal with customer service by phone. Next time you are at Target, walk past the CC desk back in the electronics section and look at the line of folks with CC issues. Then, talk to a couple of them about their CC experiences. shout

I was thinking of switching to CC. I don't think any customer service could be worse than att.

My experience has been that the bar is not set very high in mobile phone service for consumers. My worst experience was with Verizion. I spent about 30 hrs. total getting bounced around tech service representatives and finally lucked up on one that fixed the problem in about 15 minutes. All of this was over a 2 week period. A month or so later, discovered another problem with a feature I had never used previously. After another 2 or 3 hours of my time invested, we moved to T-mobile. We dealt with the manager of the that store and he seemed quite competent. No major tech issues thus far...a few features don't seem exactly right but no big deal. Had to get very assertive with corporate to honor the cost we had been quoted by the store. shruggy

The clincher was that when Verizion called to see why we bailed I was told there was no record of the problems with my line...

I've been on Verizon since I was downsized at Motorola, not paying for cell service from 1988 to 2006 was awesome, then finding out how much it cost floored me! I payed big money for years, then told Verizon I was done and they came WAAAYYYY down on their price, but it is still too expensive, I pay $145/month for two lines unlimited and when I move south later this year I will switch to a carrier that works there. Call up Verizon and tell them you are done and see what they will do for you... twocents

I've been a Verizon user for 20 yrs. Never any serious issues, customer service was good until......covid. They restructured their stores and farmed out their call center overseas, so now its a crap shoot whether or not your gonna get good (if any) help.

No exaggeration, when my Mother passed a few months ago, I called customer service to make changes to my plan, and heard chickens in the background. CHICKENS! And not faintly either, they sounded like they were right up by the mic with the agent. no

Before if I had a (simple) question regarding an app or the phone in general (iphone) all I had to do was go to one of their stores and I could get help. Now, they don't even try to help and tell me to go to the Apple store across the street.

I'm annoyed by the changes, but not ready to jump ship........yet. frowwn

I worked for the telephone industry starting in 1964 as an apprentice lineman and then transfer in to customer service installing phones 15 months later. that company was a very small company that GTE of CA had bought before I was hired, They change the name to GTE while I was in the U.S. Army overseas in 1967, I went back to work for them in Sept of 1968 and thought I had got out of the Army and went to work in Marine Corp down,
They were a horrible company to work for, they thought the customer and the employees were only there for the company to suck a profit out of, they had me do illegal temporary and unsafe stuff to jury rig temporary fixes instead of taking the time to do it right and safely rant down hammer
I quit them in 1970 and went to work for another local telephone company 75 miles away called Continental telephone of CA which later became Contel pf CA. They were a excellent company to work for that had great benefits and treated the customers and employees with respect up it was a privilege to work for them up bow boogie
GTE bought them in 1991 and I was reduced in force in 1997 at the ripe old age of 52 yrs. old, I hadn't planned on retiring but with what I had saved and earned in my 401K along what their buy out was I was able to do that, retire with the buyout, and make the same amount of money per month per month up boogie devil
I still live on that money today along with some other retirement income like S.S. and a small medical pension from vehicle injury in the Army.
I'm still looking and comparing prices and service, we will see up
I'll post my results on here once I make that decision luck

I have been with comsumer cellular for the last 6 years and have had not one complaint. Customer service has always been top notch. They do sell smart phones for a reasonable price that have all the aps you want. Motorola G play. My bill is less than $30 a month and when AT&T went down I didn't.

I've had AT&T for a LONG time, no complaints - very good coverage if I travel.
Not the cheapest, though.
I've been tempted to try Consumer Cellular or T-Mobile, but it just hasn't been a priority, plus I'm paying off my current phone.
(Had an LG phone, but last year they decided to quit cell phones, and phone became useless...how nice...

Five years ago I signed up with Mint Mobile after becoming very frustrated when Verizon cut way back on their third party tower sites to create the cash flow needed to fund their 5G equipment.

Mint Mobile has been great in customer service. When my home internet cable got cut a surprisingly quick call to Mint Service let me switch to their unlimited data plan by simply reducing the months remaining -no cash payment and instant upgrade. Data speed is 100 mps up and down. Unlimited WIFI Hotspot ability and I have connected multiple devices to my one old Google Pixel phone.

Just recently my normally strong signal at home dropped and another slightly longer call yielded a diagnosis that the cell tower nearest me was undergoing “maintenance” and they “embargoed” my individual phone from connecting to that one tower, which got me back to 4 bars.

When driving in the Appalachian Mountain valleys far from interstate highways I sometimes lose all signal.

The Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds recently sold Mint Mobile to T-Mobile but I have not detected any change.

The least expensive Mint Mobile plan is either at, or within $5 per month of the cheapest plan, except for the USA Gov “free plans” to low income or border crossers.

Other family members have stayed on ATT cellular for years because they have “grandfathered” family unlimited data plans.

Other cell service providers are offering free Netfix streaming service with their data plans.

I have a nephew who has used Google Fi cell service and while doing an around the world vacation last year he said it worked very well.

I've been with Verizon for years with no complaints. Last year the wife and I needed new phones. Went to the local store....guy says "wow I can put you in a much better/cheaper plan" We walked out with 2 Samsung S23 phones with unlimited on both AND a 5g internet box for home.....$125/month. Saved us at least $75/month over what we were paying for cell/internet service. Has been rock solid since!

I like Verizon because it works everywhere....we've been all over this great country...cruises, Canada,Mexico etc. It just works.

i just use tracfone.
as i only use my phone for phone calls, [biggrin] that works ok for me.
the $100.00 yearly plan works out to $8.34 per month, so it's cheap.
i don't travel far from home, so i can't say what the service is away from here, but it works great here.
i just have a cheapy flip phone from wally world, and it's still "smarter than me"........

I have used Consumer Cellular for probably close to six years. Highly recommend them.

Excellent coverage, good pricing and fair policies, no penalties if you go over usage on your plan.

Service in the Target stores can be spotty but their US based phone support is excellent.

Hedge, don't know what you are experiencing with CC, but WAAAAAAAAAAAY different than what I have experienced. When you call customer service, you talk with someone in the USA, not someone in the Phillipines with chickens running around inside their shack (yes - I have heard this before too). I started out at $34.00/mo. for 5GB of data, then needed to go to the 10GB plan - I was using my hotspot for internet when I travel. That bumped me up to $44.00. When I had Verizon, it was costing me $80.00/mo. & kept creeping up every few months. CC has been the same cost for about 6 years now. Also, no BS charges - mystery charges on my bills. Each monthly bill is consistent. AND, I get less dropped calls than with Verizon.

I use Tmobile and its fine. Have not tried CC so I can't compare. But coverage is good and plenty of data for my use.

Work phone is ATT, personal phone is T mobile.

No complaints for either. I get out into the wilds of west Texas a lot, oil patch territory, haven't had a lot of issues with reception but there is a reason I carry two phones using two different carriers. Mostly, it's a hold over from the days when coverage was a lot more spotty. But I still get into areas with no coverage at all. It's like being back in the 80's, lol.

I don't think anyone has mentioned this but Consumer Cellular uses the AT&T network. Great coverage.

While my phone was not affected by the AT&T problems earlier my wife's phone was.

I dumped Consumer Cellular last summer. Got tired of not being able to get service while traveling in northern Michigan. My wife has Verizon through her work and in the areas I couldn't get service with CC she had no problem connecting with Verizon.
