Heading to the Texas Mile!

I just registered for the Texas Mile in March. It will be my first standing mile event. My Mercedes is the weapon of choice and I expect results in the 160 to 170 mph range. Judging by how the car performs at speed against known mile cars it should be capable of speeds in the low 170s.
Now, top speed is a different story. The factory speed limiter is 186 mph and cars that have been delimited have easily surpassed 210 mph. The trouble is that you're covering ground so quickly at those speeds that you run out of room before you know it. At 120 mph you're covering 176 feet every second. 150 mph equals 220 feet per second. 170 mph is 250 feet per second. That's fast enough to cover a quarter mile in less than 5-1/2 seconds.


If I had to call it now I'd guess a 29.6 second pass at 172 mph. The car is unmodified and on the factory tune.

Faster faster faster.

Same outfit held a mile event at the airport in Watkins, Colorado back in 2017.
My boy and I took the GS out there and it was a blast.
Only issue was the airport was at 5525 ft in elevation so it killed horsepower on my NA vehicle. The forced induction cars fared better.
It was great fun however.

I'll be replacing the left front lower control arm this weekend. The bushing is a bit worn. The rest of the chassis is looking good. My summer tires are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S 105(Y). They're rated in excess of 189 mph, have more than half their tread, less than 2 years old and have no patches or plugs. Wheels are straight and true with no repairs. Brakes are in good shape. Rotors had less than .001" of runout.

I will be installing the harness I use for the Big Bend Open Road Race and my safety gear is up to spec.

Everything should be good to go but I'll do a thorough nut and bolt inspection as race time grows near.

Sounds like a blast, is there a driver certification?
I assume they don't let any ham & egger walk off the street and go 200mph?

It doesn't seem overly difficult to join in. Safety checks for the car and the first runs are at limited speeds.
