After reading GM statement, they basically said
The car got dirty and died.

"In a statement, a representative from Chevrolet noted that “rubber debris from the track damaged the wiring harness to the fuel pump, disabling the pace car. NASCAR has transferred to the back-up pace car to continue official pace car duties for the balance of the race.” That car then paced the remainder of the event."

Gotta be about the same odds as hitting the jet dryer, eh ?
(An old reference few here will get, but they'll laugh)
Years ago, had a Ford Tempo as a company car, which had an impact sensor to kill the fuel pump in a collision.
A feature you'd have to read the Owner's Manual to know it existed.
Running down a freeway, I see a black chunk of something but can't swerve enough to avoid it.
(Turned out to be a chunk of truck tire tread)
So, a good WHUMP as the L/R tire catches it, and the car shuts off.
Pulled over, found the reset in the trunk, lit back off.
Tire chunk actually folded the lip of the wheel opening back.

The great Juan Pablo!
My sister came to visit in a Pontiac rental car over Thanksgiving one year. Dad and I took it for a high speed run outside of town and it shut off! Dad looked at me like I had kicked a puppy thinking I had blown it up. It had just hit the fuel cutoff at the 104 mph (or whatever they were set at back then).

But hold on before we throw too many stones at the other brands in our glass pace car house.

Big difference between driver errors and engineering errors.

Agree. But one has to ask if the Camaro situation isn't a driver error also? How do you pick up rubber on the race line isn't that rubber usually way off the race or driving line?

The new diesel we are building from the proven 350 V8 is going to be a wonderful engine.

I have asked about the newly revised Electromotive GP-38 Locomotive cylinder head alloys you said keep cracking and have been assured that there is nothing wrong with the metallurgy or their heat treating - your guys must be terribly overheating them.
