First full Nascar race I have watched in 25 years

First full Nascar race I have watched in 25 years - 07/03/23 03:37 PM

If you missed yesterday's wet Chicago street race, you missed watching some real driving. SVG put on a real show that was very exciting.
Nascar's takeaway should not be needing to have 43 cars in one bunch for an entire race, but watching a long shot drive thru the field most of the race to an uncertain finish while keeping the audience on the edge of their seats, makes for quite a show.
With Nascar's recent successful "show" at LeMans and now Chicago, wonder if they might consider a follow-up similar race at Sebring, a track Nascar also owns of late.

It was a very exciting race, especially since it took Bubbles so long ho run out of talent.

SVG wouldn't be as much of a surprise to folks if they've watched much Aussie Supercars.
Enjoyed much of the race, even though the broadcast team was pretty gushy.
Impressive speed on streets I can remember driving, especially with the wet & bumpy surface.
What SVG was doing on his passing into corners was opening his trajectory so he could whistle the car ahead: total commitment.

Side note: when you want rain, schedule a NASCAR race...

Haven’t watched one in probably 20 years….. but I’ll be dropping $100 next week to watch 6 consecutive nights of dirt modified racing as IMCA TV will have the Dakota Modified Tour on smile

For those of us that don't care to watch much NASCRAP anymore:

Who is SVG and which sticker team does he drive for?
Is he a regular, or just a a ringer for the street race?

I have never watched an entire NASCAR race in my entire life, am I missing something?

I like the super speedway stuff - this is a really cool onboard video from a few years back

SVG - Shane van Gisbergen - is a Kiwi racer with 3 Aussie Supercar titles.
Trackhouse brought him over to run the Chicago race, and he basically kicked everyone's butts from 1st practice.
Aussie Supercar is similar to our TransAm in its heyday, though with modern cars.
A lot of the new-gen Cup cars have borrowed the tech from the Aussie series.
Cup cars on a road course are something I enjoy, and on a street course, pretty damn exciting.
But I've been addicted to motorsport of almost every kind since childhood...YMMV

No you have not missed much of anything. Occasionally they have a good race, but they are pretty far between. Usually catching the last 50 or so laps tells the entire story.

By the sounds of it, the current mess is worse then it was a few years ago.

Ringers brought in to run specific races has nearly always happened, but seldom does it work out like it was planned. I'm getting the drift this one fizzled at the end as well. NASCRAP just can't let ringers win too often, it would upset the plan.

It was pretty good once I put the TV on mute!

The announcers screaming into their mic's the whole race was unbearable! Lots of off-track excursions into the tire barriers since it was wet and EVERY.SINGLE.TIME they would scream about it! panic

I agree 100%. From one of the most beautiful tracks in the world to downtown shithole. down From the few laps I saw looked like prison fences and concrete barriers compared to the scenery at Road America. Not good!

It's the origin of "road racing", it's not supposed to be beautiful, it's supposed to be real, All the great iconic road racing tracks have that element, LeMans, Sebring, Wakins Glen, Nuremburg etc.
