Put a big form fitting gasoline fuel cell in the bed and drive it on I-40 coast to coast?

While looking around for older images of this elco, I came across this Ford Prototype called the "Ranchero Scrambler".........

At quick glance, don't those front and rear styling cues look awfully familiar? scope shruggy

And with a pickup bed and the tailgate closed what good does it do in either PICKUP TRUCK?? Remember they put the flat rear windows in the Daytona and Superbird for aero reasons not a pickup bed with a tailgate closed or even open duh wink

At least the wing on the elco is high enough above the roof line that it might actually catch some air for down force.

Point is though, in both cases, it's for looks only.

Tight fitting, hard bed cover as an option? At least then it might actually do something.

Why does the nose color look darker in both the front and rear photo of the car?

Re: super elco ? - 06/26/23 11:31 AM

I had a neighbor with a SRT V10 Ram that I would pass on daily walks.

The rear spoiler was an upside down wing for down force. I think it actually increased total drag.

I as kinda shocked the first time I saw that a large number of the front radiator grille holes were blocked off from behind.

I now cannot walk past any car without aero thoughts involuntarily jumping up:
rear brake light shapes
spads covering half the rear tire
diffusers below the rear bumpers
placement of exhaust pipes on cars versus trucks that could pull a trailer

Like the joke:

Do Not think of a Pink Elephant !

In a similar way I now notice involuntarily
ear lobe creases in passing people as a sign of heart disease

If this thing was actually built, I think there would be some interesting aerodynamics happening at high speeds!

I always go back to Krass and Bernie when I see this. I dig the idea of an Aero Warrior ute. Just not by way of an El Camino.
