and the all time classic "I thought I was pushing the brake"
Most people just lie and say "The car just took off, sudden acceleration, blah blah blah" when what really happened is they stepped on the gas instead of the brake. This issue is largely confined to geezers and drunks.
Yep, blame it on the car, except it ain't..
It happens to "normal" people too - I drive a lot, I even track race... and I experienced a giant dumptruck pulling out RIGHT in front of us with oncoming traffic in the opposing lane, so I veered behind it to its rear and reflexively stomped on the brake because there was other equipment parked there - Except it was the throttle (driving a GFs somewhat unfamiliar MGB). I was conscious of the acceleration, and the time it took to mentally process that I had to let off the gas and step on the brake was the exact amount of time it took to crash into the giant tire of another adjacent earthmover... about three seconds.
