Wow what a blast.

And the company making this beast still gets blasted on this forum. They also make the TRX, Charger, and Durango with Hellcat engine as if the 5.7 wasn't enough in all these cars and trucks. And we have the Redeyes and all kinds of cool variations and until the government stepped in mandating EV's we can only imagine what would've come. This CEO is obviously a car guy.

True but he's just the head of Dodge, he still has to answer to Tavares who I still dont know why is the CEO of everything. He's been pretty lackluster and quiet (compared to Sergio Marchionne)

Yes he does have to answer to Tavares and Tavares has to meet CAFE standards. I like the guy.

All the stuff you listed is cool as hell. Too bad they don't produce some cool everyday driver cars that people without Leno's checkbook could buy and drive!

CAFE standards will and can change at the drop of a hat. BMW recently came out and said they are no longer changing their entire business model to fit some fly by night politician and Tavares would be wise to jump on the bandwagon.

With the huge costs of these “virtue signaling” vehicle drivetrain changes,
wouldn’t make equal sense to mandate
making synthetic gasoline from electricity and carbon dioxide?

Remember that Exxon and Porsche are building a plant in the extremely windy southern part of Argentina to use windmill electricity to take carbon dioxide from the air and create 110 Octane rating synthetic gasoline that can be used in any “legacy” vehicle.

The Demon 170 would run even better on 130 Octane synthetic Triptane fuel.

Where there is little wind
solar, hydro or nuclear could be used.

If $ does not matter, why not satisfy activists by mandating an expensive fuel that will work in existing vehicle designs?

We have just experienced “an experiment” in Modern Monetary Theory
where huge amounts of currency was created electronically from thin air,
and the result “was only” ten percent inflation.
That has been pretty bad,
but “enduring” countries like Argentina and Zimbabwe
have demonstrated that inflation of 30% to 100% per year
can be “tolerated” over multiple decades,
although economic growth stops or reverses.

It would not be good
but it might be “less bad”
to go with legislating creating motor fuel from carbon dioxide and electricity,
and paying for it with electronically created money.

I say “less bad” because when the problems become undeniable to the nontechnical population,
it could more quickly reversed
by going back to gas wells, oil wells and coal mines.

That was a great video, every time Jay tickled the throttle he'd start with that silly giggle of his. Cracked me up. Thanks for posting.

I don't understand. You can DD a 5.7 Charger or Challenger and they are competitively priced in the market.

I have driven my 2009 Challenger R/T Classic for 260,000 miles with no major issues. And many of my friends on here have ridden in the car. It rides great, it does mid-13's in the quarter, and you can throw it around a road track and autocross.

Oh yeah, and I got to hang out with Leno at the Demon 170 unveiling.

Re: Leno drives the Demon 170 - 04/18/23 09:44 PM

my brother bought an r/t loaded with every option he could get, [2010 i think] B5 blue, minus the sunroof, [he had a mid 70's duster with one, and it leaked and rattled, thus the no sunroof decision laugh2] and added the stripe delete.
it's been relatively maintenance free with the exception of having something done to the engine concerning the heads [but i don't remember what that was, or how many miles were on it when that happened].
he did tell me 5th and 6th gear were pretty much useless below 110........
i asked him how he knew that, and he said : "someone told him that, and he NEVER tried it himself...... devil [followed by the "family laugh", indicating, as my old man would say : "What a PREVARICATOR !" - also known in a more "familiar" term, BULL$HITTER. biggrin]
