My wife and her friend are going to the Janet Jackson concert in Austin TX on June 4th. I am not but will be coming along to Austin from South Dakota. Her friend lives in Pflugerville which is the reason they are going. I am wondering if anything exciting might be taking place around the area that day or evening.

Make the 1.5 hour drive due west to Fredericksburg, Texas and visit the Chester Nimitz National Museum of the Pacific War.
Fredericksburg is where Admiral Nimitz was born. It's a neat little town. The museum encompasses several buildings throughout the town.

Enjoy the traffic in Austin. It seems worse than Dallas. I went to UT back in the early 1980s. It was a cool town when I got there, started getting too big by 1985. The FSAE group at UT had a reunion a couple of years back and it was a football weekend and I couldn't find a hotel for less than $200/night, most were $400/night. I'd like to see an F1 race at COTA, but that would be a pricey trip. There is Pro Trans in Waco. I'd try the outer cities like Drippy Springs or visit the Hamilton Pool.

Should you be in the mood for kolaches or other baked goodies
The Village Bakery
113 E Oak St. West, TX 76691
Turn east at the Chevrolet Dealer, cross the RR tracks and look left
Green's Sausage House
16483 TX-53, Temple, TX 76501
In Temple, turn east on hwy 53, go 16.7 miles east, on the right. Truly a unique butcher / meat market / restaurant. You can't miss it, it's right smack in the middle of downtown Zabcikville
"Green's Sausage House has been a staple in the Zabcikville, Texas, community since 1946. Our charming, rural business is known for our Bakery (kolaches, bread & cookies), Cafe' (home of the famous Sausage Burger) and Meat Market
Zabcikville is an unincorporated community in eastern Bell County, Texas, with a population of about 40 according to a 1990 estimate.
Do NOT stop at either one if you're trying to lose weight. But if you're looking for a treat and or unique experience, both these German heritage shops are worth the trip.

Drive by the greyhound station and get shocked into thinking you're in LA.

Keeping Austin weird since 1980. Maggie Mae's bar on 6th Street was cool in the early 1980s. They expanded in the mid-1980s and it lost it's charm. Lots of BBQ joints around, Lockhart south of Austin, Franklin BBQ, County Line, Salt Lick, etc. in Austin. Louie Mueller's in Taylor, north of Austin.
