Anyone use YouTube TV?

Anyone use YouTube TV? - 03/22/23 02:38 PM

Not talking about YouTube basic (free).

I’m speaking of YouTube TV streaming. Cost about $75 per month.

I’m on Spectrum (Charter) and pay $200 per month (not counting Internet)

Granted, we have six spectrum boxes. Four DVR and two non DVR). Expanded basic, no premiums)

I’ve been looking heavily into YouTube TV, which seems to be gaining a lot of chord cutting subscribers of late, since they’ve recently made a number of changes and improvements,

I’ve played with the YouTube (basic), feeding off my iPhone YouTube app.

I think one of the drawbacks is the user control interface. It just seems more manually intensive (channel changes, fast forward/reverse, etc) compared to Spectrum boxes being much simpler to navigate.

I’ve checked a lot of other options (OTA, Tivo, Hulu, Sling, etc).

Not interested in them. Just YouTube TV, or stay with the boxes.

Personal experience? Thanks! wave

We dumped Spectrum a few years back...totally ridiculous cost. We use Hulu+Live and like it fine. My kid just dumped their cable and use Youtube TV and like it just fine. Cable companies are gonna figure out that there is finally some competition out there.

We have Xfinity as an internet provider connected to a modem and wifi router that I own. No cable tv boxes. We stream YouTubeTV, Prime and Paramount+ for tv channels. All of our TV's are connected to the wifi with Roku sticks. I don't use the Smart tv features to stream because we have three different brands that are all different. By using the Rokus they are all the same. Trust me that's a marriage saver right there.

I really liked YouTube TV. But I needed the History channel. But besides that. It was a good service. And if you're an NFL fan. Sunday ticket will be on You Tube TV for a nice fee. But I ended up with SlingTV. They have all the channels I like, including History. I usually just keep the Blue package. $40. And add the Orange during football season. $55 total. But when you add internet service. Streaming really isn't that much cheaper anymore. Plus it goes up a few times a year.

I have had it for a few years
I like it
As mentioned you can share accounts and split the cost if you choose to.

As I mentioned’ my total Spectrum bill was right at $300 per month: Spectrum expanded basic, local broadcasts, six boxes, internet.

I called Spectrum yesterday to cancel all TV service, retain internet, and go to YouTube TV.

Expectedly, the sales person wanted to convince me otherwise.

I now have their Spectrum TV app with Rokus (YouTube TV alternative), all my previous channels (with programming record) and internet,.

Total package now $135 per month.

It’s only been one day, but so far very happy.

Navigation is a bit more complicated (guide scrolling vs direct input), but the scrolling is sniper fast, so I’m OK with it.

Especially considering the over 50 % cost savings.

We went to YouTube tv last year. App is clunky but gets it done. The internet bill jumped 15 bucks yesterday, so called to complain about that. While getting it back on a promo to be what it was, the phone company tried to get me to take their cable package. 3 boxes, 132 a month. Uh that’s a hard pass, I’ll take the YouTube deal where we just sign in wherever we are at and it sends a code to your phone or whatever to make sure it’s you. For 73 a month, was 65 until last month.

I changed about 2 years ago. Cable TV and internet service was like $240/mo. Now I have high speed service from my local electric company for $55/mo and You Tube TV for $75. As suggested by others my adult kids also share the account. So glad to have cut that cable cord. I recommend the Fire Stick over the google products. I tried them at first and 3 failed within 6 months. The fire sticks have been reliable so far.

What I like about "Cord cutting" (means watching TV thru the internet and not traditional cable or satellite) is that you are literally removing funding to stations you don't care for. ESPN is the largest. On average $6-8 of each customers monthly bill goes to ESPN (if you have it on your package). CNN MSNBC MTV TLC etc. each get a bite of a customer monthly bill. This $$ is a contractual obligation made between the cable and satellite companies with the stations. I do not miss funding all the reality TV BS. Plus cable makes you endure up to 16 minutes of commercials in a 60 minute period. Eventually streaming TV will trickle in the BS that ruined cable and satellite but currently you are better off streaming your TV viewing. If you don't have access to robust good internet check out Star link.

We dumped Direct TV maybe four years ago in favor of Youtube TV.

It's ok. Not great, but ok, and it's still relatively inexpensive compared to the alternatives. We spend six months in Tucson, and six months in Michigan Biggest problem is our local internet supplier in Michigan isn't very reliable, and that affects the TV now..

I've used it for 6 months, and I'd say it's pretty good. 2 things stand out. It's only a click or 2 on the remote and you'll be on your youtube home page. And you can filter out all the channels you don't want to see, I've always found it annoying to scroll thru a ton of garbage channels to find something worth watching
