Gen 2 Charger Corporate pics - 02/22/23 04:54 PM

I was on one of the many Facebook pages with Mopar Memorabilia and came by this guy selling some black and white pics. He said they are legit pics taken of the new body while its still sitting on a jig being detailed out. I don't have Venmo, Paypal, or anything like that, I didn't know this guy from Adam, and I took a chance and sent him a message. I told him I'm a honest guy, and I would send him the money, check, a shipping label, and a binder for the pictures. He did agree, and I did not want to bug him, so I just left him alone, he sent me a message telling me hes waiting for the check to clear, and he would ship them out when it did. i was very patient and today they got here! I honestly think I got a great deal, and I will have them appraised. I am planning on putting them in a frame and hanging them in my "office" in my man cave/shop.

Oh, for an extra 100 bucks he threw in some turbine car photos, and a couple letters dated 1955....

Kasey!!

Interesting stuff - note Jan '67 date on one photo.
Looks like studies of the '69 grille, '69 or '70 tail panel, on a '68 body, which might be a clay.
I don't see any rear bumper bolts but maybe some on the front.
Surprised to see mags on it.
The Turbine car is cool, too.

i always liked the look of those cars without the bumper guards, which is why i took mine off.
looks like dodge at least thought about not having them.
thanks for sharing those pictures ! up bow

I couldnt NOT share these! way too cool, and with a magnifying glass you can see it is in clay. the hood gaps, and trunk gaps are all rough with clay hunks. neat too see the differences in the grill from left to right, and the tail pannels is different also. theres a 69 Dart front clip in the corner of one of the pictures. Im going to make a custom pentastar shaped picture frame and make a collage with them. I have a buddy who owns a glass shop.

Cool!
This is the type of press thing that they were out there at some point but how many are left? Glad it worked out with seller and it wasn't some duche that only wanted one form of payment or didn't want to ship or whatever else.

Was 1968 the first year for the tail stripes and was Dodge the first to use it on a production car?

Re: Gen 2 Charger Corporate pics - 02/22/23 10:47 PM

Camaro had the "nose stripe" in '67 and wonder if that and the '68 Dodge Super Bee "bumblebee" tail stripe was the inspiration for the now Dodge signature tail stripe?

Thought I would post a photo of a nose striped '67 Cameo (mis-spelled on porpoise up for you Kerndog grin grin ) but just couldn't bring myself to do it. biggrin

Yes, the bumblebee stripe debuted on the '68 performance models.
Fun fact - or may be fact, or just someone's overblown ego -
When I worked for B&M (trans, not beans laugh2) they hired a marketing guy named Jerry Gross.
His previous gig was allegedly in a marketing capacity for Dodge.
Chatting once, he claimed he was the guy that came up with the idea for those stripes.
God only knows if that's true, but it's an amusing claim.

Re: Gen 2 Charger Corporate pics - 02/23/23 03:47 AM

I dont think clay cars had interiors or exhaust, thats probably what they call an S1 and it would have met its fate with the crusher

By that date the 68's would have been fully tooled up, this was , as stated above, to finalize the 69 grille and tail lamps

Somewhere I have the dealer update package for for the 1969 Plymouth Road Runner and GTX. It contains several 8x10, glossy, black and white photos of cars and features and includes a typed spec summary of several pages explaining the changes to the two models from '68 to the '69 models. Similar to what you have here. Wish I could find them, but I put them somewhere for safe keeping and you know the rest of that story...

I wish I could find a cheap, worn out L body Charger. I think it would be cool to build a V8/RWD IMSA type car out of one. Kinda of like the Monzas of the late 70s.
