Does anyone know this Hemi Superbird? - 01/18/23 10:53 PM

Not sure if this is the right forum for this. Does anyone recognize the Superbird in this picture? This picture hung in the Administration building at Chrysler’s Belvidere Assembly Plant until the mid-1980s when the admin building was remodeled and all the pictures of cars hanging in the building were replaced with pictures of newer cars. This picture was saved by one of the maintenance guys and later given to me since I had a Superbird at the time. This is not an official Chrysler photo. I am just curious if this car still exists and the possibility of reuniting this picture with the car. Obviously this Superbird is Alpine White with a black interior, there is a 426 Hemi emblem on the front fender, which I have not seen on any other Hemi Superbird, so that may narrow the field a bit, has bucket seats, 15” rallye wheels, chrome exhaust tips, and what appears to be California blue plates with the numbers 453-BZH.

Might be the one Brian Styles owned? I saw it in Phoenix a few years back, have a picture of it around here somewhere... scope

I believe there was somewhere around 17 Alpine White Hemi Superbirds, so that narrows the field down quite a bit. Let me know if you find a picture and if you think this might be Brian's car.

It's cool but I'm not sure.

Doug Schellinger may know about it, but I can't remember his screen name here. Doug probably has more wing car info than anybody on the planet, and just like his Dad...is a great guy. Maybe he will see this thread. up

Does the vinyl roof of a Superbird with all its tiny “dimples” have any aerodynamic effect?

Never thought about that until I looked at that picture a 2nd time.

Maybe the Dimple Car episode of Mythbusters is slowly rewiring my neurons, or Dementia side effects are unpredictable....

I have never seen that Hemi emblem on a Superbird either, since this is not an official Chrysler photo, there are no numbers or nomenclature on the back of the picture. I'm not sure when the picture was taken, however, I know it was hung in Chrysler's Belvidere Assembly Plant, so I can only assume it was somehow related to Chrysler. Maybe a prototype vehicle and the emblem was dropped for some reason? I have several pictures of the white Superbird that was used as a promo car and it does not have the Hemi emblem, but I don't know what engine is in the promo Superbird. Maybe this is the same car and the emblem was removed before the promo pictures were taken? Who knows, thank you to everyone for their replies and comments.

The pilot Superbird used in the press photos is likely a 6-BBL car. When the current owner puts more out we'll all know more.

The 426 Hemi emblems on the car pictured above are 99.99% probability of someone in the 1970's fishing them out of a dealer parts counter catalog. That is what people did in the 1970's. It could have been a 440 car with an engine swap too.

No great conspiracy, just a 20 year old customizing their newly acquired used car.

No super secret Chrysler plan, no matter where it was parked for the picture
