Hemi Super Stock Dart photos - 12/13/22 09:18 AM

If you have any rare images of the 1968 Hemi Dodge Dart (preferably in black and white) could you please post them? Here are some that I have collected thus far...

Thanks!

Re: Hemi Super Stock Dart photos - 12/13/22 04:31 PM

one thing i have always wondered, what was the front wheel bolt pattern ?
if it was 4 1/2", were the hubs drilled that instead of the standard A-body 4", or were different hubs used ? if different hubs were used, what were they ?
another item i picked up from those pictures, it looks like the rear wheel openings were hacked out with an axe.
i'm guessing they were rough cut with whatever, then folded up into the opening so as to not have [too many] sharp edges ?
thank you for posting those pictures. up bow

from a couple things i read you still had a lot of chargerwork to do before it can get down the track

The rotors were used out of the parts bin and were 4-1/2" bolt pattern. The wheel wells were hacked pretty badly but what you see in the close up is bad taping of the gloss black they sprayed in the wheel wells after the hack job... scope

Buy Jim Schild's book on the Hemi A-Body's for more info...

So the Darts had radiused rear wheel openings, but not the B-Fishes?

Yes because the wheel wells were more round and didn't cover the tire like the Darts so the B-Body Dana could be used also...

rhino, you said the rotors were out of the parts bin with the 4 1/2" pattern.
were they B-body rotors, and were the B-body spindles used as well, or did they use different bearings to fit the A-body spindles ?
i know i need to get the book.

The rotors were used in 1966 on the Trans Am Mopars. They are a basically a small bolt pattern rotor with bolt pattern drilled differently and machined for larger diameter center register. The spindles and calipers are the same as small bolt pattern production line stuff.

Bob Tarozzi helped on the "Team Starfish" Trans Am car. So he was well aware of special parts.

Here’s Bob’s pin from the 1966 Trans Am race at Sebring

Is that the AAR diorama from Mopars In Scale, or the world's largest lapel pin ?!

No, it’s from one of my display cases

The pin was Bob Tarozzi’s that created the 68 Hemi Super Stock cars. I have a 3” thick scrapbook of his involvement with the 66 Trans Am program.

That's good, I figured more than a few may have had the engines pulled in the mid 70's and then it'd just an "old cut up dart"

There's a 68 Hemi SS page on Facebook that gets lots of old pictures posted to it also.

Mine was just a cut-up old race car thrown out behind a quonset hut in Kansas, the first picture is when it had wheels and tires put on and 67 sheet metal as picked up, the second pic is what it looked like in 1969...

I remember going to the 1990 Barrett Jackson muscle car auction in Phoenix, AZ and saw around 110 authenticated Originals 1968 Hemi darts go across the stage, Hurst made 66 Hemi Darts for Mopar in 1968 and around 54 to 55 Hurst Hemi Cuda whistling work shruggy
I do remember someone on here saying that they thought that Dodge sent more than 77 incomplete rolling 1968 Darts to Hurst to make into Hemi Darts confused
They also said that that some of those extra incomplete Hurts Darts cars were made into Hemi Darts by private owners later who had bought them incomplete from Hurst confused

Acquired from the original owners. If there are any out there more original and with all, and I mean all, of the original documentation, I'd like to see it.

Used to see him at Mason/Dixon in Hagerstown but he usually had an early B Body car. What ever happened to Gene?

Gene was a character. Never saw him without a long sleeve shirt with the sleeves buttoned. Regardless how hot it was. Saw him at Hagerstown just about every week in the old days. He used to come up to my shop and hang out occasionally. Not sure what happened to the Dart. I know he owned it for a long time after he stopped racing it. I'll have to ask one of the old guys tomorrow

I first met him at his farm in Laytonsville and he had the Dart and a rare hemi 64 Savoy. The Dart and the Savoy were sold together and, I believe, went to California.

Correct. Jim Kramer has the Dart now. I've heard mixed stories on the '64 Plymouth. Possibly an aluminum MW car that had the Hemi added?
