What a crock of ******!!!!!
"Barely runs, Has issues, I know nothing about it, etc, etc,"
Always wanted one, but placed a very very low bid.
BUT, I'm gonna drive it 700 miles !!!!
Yea Right: followed by a trailer.
Could barely watch 5 minutes into video.

I don't know about any of that. Derek is usually a straight shooter. I don't doubt for a second he bought it sight unseen for a low, low price. Model A's are pretty simple and a cursory Google search will show you how to do most repairs. And normally, no, he doesn't do these with a trailer following. In these wonderful, modern times we live in.... his Mrs. is nothing more than a phone call away; and she'll hook up the trailer and rescue him. That's actually happened when his purchase turned out to be a pile.

Vicegrip’s schtick of buying old, broken-down cars, doing some quick fixes and driving them hundreds of miles home, is getting lame. Several other YouTubers are doing the same thing as well. I don’t doubt his skills. Rather, it’s dull and too predictable.

A good friend of mine dad was. Model A and T specialist.
He knew everything about them.
He also had a 30s Plymouth as well. He drove then all over.
Also WW2 vet.
Very simple cars. But you have to know about them.
Very fun driving cars.
Sadly he has passed on and his know how with it. His son knows, plenty as well.

Meanwhile, Frieburger and Pewe are driving from Arizona to Florida in a WWII era Jeep.

Day 1 was pull worn engine and replace with crate flathead.

My girlfriend's grandfather has a model A. I've helped him on it. They have their idiocyncracies. Good news is that you don;t need a lot of tools to work on them, they aren't that complicated, but they aren't like today's cars either, so you do need knowledge, or google.

Didn't those include a set of simple tools, and owners of the day were supposed to be able to do most repairs on their car with them? I have a few vintage tools that are marked Ford

My dads uncle was part of a model a club that would drive well into mexico and way south back in the 70's and 80's. They would take off and drive the model a and model t's from South dakota,Wyoming and pick up couples on the way south. Of course those old guys knew everything about their cars though. So 700 miles is a cake walk compared to what they use to do

His videos are repetitive after a while but still interesting to see what he's finding.

It still shows up as sold on ebay if you look. His winning bid was $11K.

Yepper my buddies dad said he drive all over the USA in Model A befure WW2 when he signed up.
Worked here and there as he did. Once picked apples and on the last day took some irregulars and sold them alomg the way across the country for gas. He had some great times in Model A.
He joined up and was, sent to AK close to the port that Deadliest Catch sails out of. For some time.
I drove one of his or someone's he was working on.
We forget that these cars were driven as cars back in their heyday
The whole front floor pans come right out with few screws or bolts to access lots of things.

He does come across as a straight shooter but more and more of the cars have clearly been worked on before he rolls the video "hasn't run in 20 years" (except when the owner fired it up 2 days ago to make sure it ran). There are some guys still doing real saves but they are smaller lesser known channels, like this one

Yes, they did. Heck, you could probably do an in car rebuild on the engine with those simple tools.

For giggles, those of you that have never started a Model A, go google how to start a model A and you'll begin to see how much technology has changed our perception of what skills a driver needs.

He usually mentions it when that is the case, he even said something about this one at the beginning. He just moved his entire operation which is much larger than it seems from Wisconsin/Minnesota area to Tennessee. He has another channel called Vice Grip Lodge, him and his wife have a video over there explaining the move. They have way more going on than it seems.

I think once they are settled more his revivals will get back to the way they were earlier. Some of the recent ones have been shipped to his place so that already clears alot of unknowns.

I watched it. It was kinda interesting for my first viewing of his stuff. Not sure I would be following him though.

I watch most of his episodes. He seems pretty sincere to me, I doubt there is too much "fakery" going on (but I also wouldn't say there is necessarily none), and certainly not like on a produced television show.

But I also agree, there is probably only so much you can do keep it fresh. One of the struggles I can see for the YouTube car content producers is that a lot of them are putting out 2-3 or more 30+ minute long videos week after week after week. How many revivals and then driving it X number or miles can you do before it stops being interesting.

A later video where he put the car on a lift and went over it showed pretty decent bones. A green Satellite ain't gonna pull as much coin as a purple Road Runner even if it isn't real.

These YouTubers are putting out great shows that are light years better than the phony shoes like Graveyard Carz and the infomercial shows like Hot Rod TV and etc.

It's about planes and not cars but I was following this back when it was being filmed. It was interesting to see if you watched Ice Pilots too.

That's why most of the guys that have done that in the past are starting their own Youtube channels and quitting those shows. Finnegan, Tony Angelo, Lucky...
