Question about plumbing.

I'm building a house (owner - builder) and have a question for any plumbers about rules for vents. I have a situation where I need to run a vent horizontally above the floor but below the attic. The code says that horizontal vents have to be at least 6 in. above the flood level rim of the highest fixture served. In my case I am plumbing in a tub. What does the code mean by flood rim? Would that be the tub drain, the overflow, or the rim of the tub itself? I'm limited on how to design the vent and alternative methods would mean cutting floor trusses, or other more illegal solutions.

Generally they want, 6" above the rim or 42" above the floor, whatever is greater, that way the system can never fill with water no matter what, like if a 36" tall sink is added later. What you can get by with varies but the rim is the top of the tub, not the overflow.

That is what I thought. The tub is a drop in/roman tub and the deck extends into the shower as a bench. There is no floor to ceiling cavity at the front of the tub and the deck tops out about 19in above the floor. I was going to run a 45 degree vent to the outside wall but it won't clear the trusses and the decking. Could I modify the vent, flattening the angle, with a pair of 22 degree fittings? I think that is the best of my options.

Cost me $150 to get a hairball snaked out of my tub drain. I really have to learn to work a snake.

You might be able to use one in your application.

I don't know how far away your stack is but sometimes with center outlet tubs you just wet vent it below the floor to the stack. 2" can go 8 feet, 3" can go 12 feet.
