Windows 11, has anyone tried it ??

just curious as i haven't heard any good or bad. Experiences thus far anyone ?

I have it on three computers since August.

What I like, start menu has lost the infernal live tiles
What I'm ambivalent about, by default the start menu is in the middle of the screen like a MAC. You can move it back to the left if you like
What I don't like, the right click menu has been simplified, most of what showed up before by default now requires clicking more options
Two of my Win 11 machines are having troubles with Excel, repair and online repair haven't fixed it, hoping an upcoming update to Win 11 will fix it. I don't know if its Office or Win 11 causing the trouble. Excel loses being the primary window frequently, I have to click on the desktop or another window and go back to excel, lather, rinse, repeat.
The ability to launch task manager by right clicking the the taskbar is gone

How I use it, I leave the start menu in the middle of the screen and install open shell, I still prefer the windows 7 type start menu, it's on the left
I change the open shell icon to a standard older windows start button, depending on my mood, I may use the XP, Vista or 7 button

FWIW, Windows 10 is supported until 2025, so no rush to upgrade if you're happy with Win 10, I also have older computers, like this one that aren't eligible for the upgrade, no problems with them either.

My (government) employer switched to Win 10, so that's what I have to use at work. I think it sucks. At home I still use Win 7 to connect remotely to work. It's also crap, but stable crap. After the Vista debacle I am in no hurry to try 11 either.

For my personal laptop, I bit the bullet and installed Linux Mint. It is SO much faster and more stable too. And free.

I had windows 7, when 10 came out. When it downloaded it ruined my system soo bad, I had to go buy a new computer, 2 lap tops and had to implement new protocols to prevent windows from automatically adding system upgrades unless I wanted to. If a system comes out on a system I buy, I'm fine not upgrading. I do simple stuff, not tying to send a rocket to mars. Don't need stuff I don't plan on using.

"They" said no more support for Windows 7 but I still get one update a day from them.

Are you paying for extended support? I don't recall EVER getting daily updates.

Windows 7 support ended January 14, 2020, but the company allows businesses to pay for extended security updates through September 10, 2023.

As I recall, individuals could pay a nominal fee for a year? About $25 monthly, IIRC?

edit, forgot all about security essentials, I suppose that could be what you're seeing?

I think I'll hang with 10 for awhile.
I'm also also wondering if previously "PURCHASED" programs will work (Office, Word, outlook) or if they will push you into a subscription for office 365 which i think is total money grubbing BS

Everything came along for the ride with the Win 11 update. All I lost was my Windows 7 games for Windows 10. I lose those at every major update anyway, I just reinstall, the registry settings aren't purged so your game settings and history are still there.

I resisted 365 too, this Win 10 machine has Office 2019. We use the 365 subscription for $99.00 / year for 6? 6 computers I think? Along with 1 terrabyte storage on onedrive seems like a good deal to me considering dropbox wants $99 for their lowest level plan?

I have Microsoft Office on a couple computers. They were installed from a disc so the programs are on the computer. Got it through a work deal. I bought one each time it came out. You could only get one per person. I have free versions (office libre or something like that) on two laptops and the Office on the daughters laptop and the main desktop computer. Now they offer the subscription service and not the programs. Not sure I like the cloud only option.

Ugghh . . . my personal laptop is 'old" Windows 8.1 and have tried so many times (unsuccessfully) to download/upgrade to windows 10 . . . so I can back up damn iphone work phone (contacts, pics, etc), am going to buy new laptop . . . not a fan of "the cloud" . . . my data is MY DATA . . . the geeks and nerds HAVE the WORLD (not inherited it, GRABBED it) . . .

Like new cars that "update" themselves over wifi, etc . . . think I will stick with my "old school" electronic ignition and am/fm radio . . . .

My 2cents worth (only worth 1/4cent today) . . .

OOPS!! You're right, the updates are Security Essentials only.
