Any e-bike owners here? - 05/23/21 05:15 PM

Just bought this, Sondors Fold XS. 750 watt motor, factory restricted to 20mph but easily unlockable to around 35mph. Folds up to move it around easy. But check some of these other ones that look like old dirt bikes

I believe the Super73 goers 60mph, no license required, ride on the road, trails, anywhere

$1800 for a barebones bike, yikes!
What's the range on a charge?

40-60 miles - whats bare bones about it? Fenders and the rear basket kit are $250 if I ever need them. They keep them attainable, its their claim to fame. $1800 for transportation I don't need plates, license and insurance for it dirt cheap - fully knowing they only get a pass because they're "green".

Seen a few electric assist bikes around - some are pretty fast. blush I ride bikes a lot so be careful out there and assume anyone in a car is not paying attention and ride accordingly.

Thanks for the reminder, I am excited, use to love biking but haven't owned one for 20+ years eek

Apparently these e-bikes make you feel like a kid again, totally worth the price of admission!

Last year I bought a Sur Ron LBX. $3600 about the same size and power of a 100cc dirt bike. I use it to go get groceries in town, visit nearby friends/family, ride in the woods, & pick up sticks in the yard. I've put about 300 miles on it so far, zero maintenance unless you count plugging it in.

They ship with a 30mph speed limiter, but i got into the wiring harness... mine does 50 now.

I've owned and still own several bikes... '78 KE100, '01 CR125, '80 XR250, '73 F7, '06 KX250F, '75 CL360, '01 300 EXC, '42 WLA, '20 XG750A

But this dumb little electric bike has been more fun than any of them.

What do you use to lock it up? Love the sur ron bikes! Also love 2 strokes but not waking the entire town up just to go for a ride - love how you can just jump on these and go, in silence!

Props to ya! Old folks like me only get hurt on things with two wheels. On nice days I sport my trail 70 to check the cattle.

No ELE. mountain mike in my future... But go getem tiger!

Just checked the law here and for it to be an e-bike it has to have working bike pedals, less than 750 watts and not go over 20 mph. Anything that doesn't have pedals or exceeds the speed and watts is a motor cycle and must be licensed, insured, and have motorcycle Dl.

The metacycle pictured is not considered an e-bike. It's a motorcycle.

I assume that China will be flooding the market with these things?

Re: Any e-bike owners here? - 05/24/21 04:20 PM

I have a cruiser. We have a small town and I am able to use it instead of driving for a lot of trips. Like 73Dad, I have had a few bikes: GPZ550, GPZ750, VFR1000R, Ninja 250, now an e-bike. The bikes can go fast, so my awareness from years of riding helps keep me from getting into unsafe situations on the road. Someone who has not ridden a motorcycle, gets an ebike, and starts cruising around at 25mph+, is kind of asking for trouble...at the least it's 'on the job training.'

Thats why you buy one with pedals, then hack it to go 80mph

So far, I don't lock it up. When I go get groceries I bring a backpack and hurry my butt to the register as quickly as possible. I recently purchased a cable loop and padlock though and plan to use 'em.

Also, all Sur Rons (and rebranded Segway versions) do come from China, which makes me guilty of being a hypocrite for as much as I tout buying American. The build quality of this bike has exceeded my expectations. There is a youtube channel where a guy races harescrambles on a Sur Ron against full size dirtbikes, I believe he has over 2000 miles on his.

Great👍 I hope American manufacturers don’t have to compete with Chinese imports. But, will Joe levy a tax on the imports?

I rode my friends Zero Motorcycle https://www.zeromotorcycles.com/ man what a blast. You need a license for it, but it was super quick and comes with three modes. I pulled up next to a motor officer at a stop light. He looked over a gave a nod, when the light turned green I nailed it, then quickly slowed down, he motioned for me to pull over, i thought he was going to give me a ticket, but all he wanted was to ask about the bike and even took it for a short spin. When I told my friend he was cracking up. A few week later it was stolen out of his driveway.
I have been want to get one ever since.

comment from a e-bike video

"Great Review! Sondors have been a game changer for me, I'm 60 and a bit overweight. I have ridden my Original over 15000 miles in the last 5 years, Lost over 50 Lbs (I do not pedal much although since getting my newer Sondors with 7 speeds I do now pedal a lot more) The bike rides and holds a charge as good today as the day I got it. I have explored trails and areas I thought I was done exploring, I have made lots of new friends (Sondors are a real conversation starter) I am much healthier and happier than I was 5 years ago and my life has improved by leaps and bounds. So Thank You! Sondors and CONGRATS on your continued success!"

Might be more productive to just add a tax on sugar.

I am waiting on electric powered weight lifting. grin

Re: Any e-bike owners here? - 05/29/21 04:18 PM

The company I work for supports GenZe and Land (Cleveland Cycle).
I am a motorcyclist...and e-bikes are not motorcycles to me.
Actually, I am not sure what they fit into.
If you are a bicyclist, don't you want to pedal and exercise?

They may be something for urban folks, but $5000 for a toy that takes me a few blocks away to the local restaurant/grocery story seems weird.
I'm sure some sub-groups of friends will all become little e-bike gangs, or maybe your a 30-year old who lives in an urban townhouse and commute to an office building 10 blocks away.
Again...is it worth it to drop 5k for something like that?

In this area, no one will use them for 6 months out of the year, so if your life style cannot be constant with it, you will never use it.

When they are $500, i will bring them to Carlisle and weld a big basket on the front and back.

But we can out 50k in our mopars and drive them a few hundred miles a year.... hmmm.
