Airstrip Attack-have you ever done it?

Airstrip Attack-have you ever done it? - 05/16/21 07:10 PM

I'm thinking of taking my 2021 Charger Redeye to the Airstrip Attack in Indiana to do the half mile. Has anyone ever done this and is it worth the high ticket price?

Yes, I've done airstrip drag racing. Not with this organization, but it was a very similar event. My reg fee was $40.00 but they only ran 1/8ths and 1/4 miles.

I very much enjoyed it because it was a relaxed atmosphere, met a lot of great people and it's heads up, on an unprepared surface. The results to Me were a lot more real World than dedicated quarter mile cars and bracket racing.

I have a lot of respect for Pilots, aircraft Engineers, and aircraft Mechanics, so getting to use their runway was a tremendous experience. bow

This half mile thing really suits your car, hope you go. up Be pretty cool to be at the end of the track as a Spectator.

I would love to run my Challenger 392 in the 1/4, but the deterrent is that IF something happens, my insurance won't cover anything that happens at the track. $40,000 risk.

You can buy racing policies , not all that expensive neither

Definitely do it, you'll enjoy it.
My boy and I did a one mile event at Watkins, Colorado a couple of years ago and last December did a 2.7 mile event down south.
It's epic to mat the throttle, hold it there and not have to be looking over your shoulder.
After doing a half mile event, you'll be looking to do longer events.
A Redeye Charger is a seriously fast top end car.
The old WW2 bomber runway we ran on at Watkins is at 5400' elevation so power was down some being NA.

Well, I signed up for both days just in case there is rain on one of the days. It is already almost sold out! I'll report my findings and speeds afterwards.

Should be fun! I have always had thoughts of making a few changes to my Barracuda to go standing mile or half mile racing for a change of pace. I would need speed rated tires, different gears, and probably a few safety items but with 600HP it would probably be pretty fun.

FMAAR - what car did you run at the Cape? what speeds?

Loved going there with my Hellcat (been 7 times) and made lord knows how many runs.

Used to love 1/4 mile drag racing but 1-mile+ stuff is so addictive

Definitely do it and keep us updated - due to a variety of reasons my Redeye charger will not get to do it for a while so I would love to see what the results are for another Redeye (assuming you are stock?)

Will do. I hear that I should be around 175 mph. I can't go above 180 without a cage and lots of other safety equipment. Yes, the drive train is stock.

Might want to lower your expectations some - Stock NB Hellcats are running 145-160 (depending on elevation, temps, etc...)

I know our Redeye's will be somewhat faster but I would doubt 15+ - I would expect you to hit 160 consistently and anything more would be icing.

After researching times other Hellcats have run in the 1/2 mile, I think you are about right. 160-165 mph. I'll report back after I run in August.
