The last few days have kinda sucked. (pet related) - 04/11/20 09:45 AM

Like the title says, the last few days have kinda sucked.

My oldest cat Aries who was just a few days shy of 14 years old had been losing weight for a while now.

At one point he was a 16 pound cat. He wasn't fat, just kind of a big cat.

I had taken him to the Vet a few weeks ago right when the virus crap was really starting around here and they diagnosed a Thyroid problem.
Only two place do the radioactive iodine treatment and the one in Columbia (Mizzou Vet School) wasn't taking pets in because of the virus stuff going on since the school is on lockdown..

He was supposed to go the other place (in Bridgeton near Ferguson) in this last Tuesday for the radioactive Iodine shot (insanely expensive) to address a Thyroid problem but he stopped eating after being taken to the Vet the Thursday before.
They couldn't say that he would even survive the treatment.

He refused to even be force fed any food, I guess he knew it was his time.
He would drink water, but refused to eat.

We knew at that point he probably wouldn't make it back home if they did the procedure (they had to keep him at least 3 days for the radiation to dissipate before he could come home.

The last several cats that we've taken to the Vet never came home and we thought it would be better for him to pass with the people who loved him by his side.

Watching him slowly fade the last few day has really sucked.

He passed away early Friday Morning.

He may have been named after the God of War,
but he was more a lover and loved to snuggle up in my lap or next to me in bed.

After he passed this morning Kayse (the wife) commented that it was ironic that he was born on Good Friday and he passed away on Good Friday.

The first two pics he was about 2 or 3 years old, the last one if from this last January when he was getting ready to curl up in my lap.

Thank you Aries aka Mr. Blue Eyes for spending 14 year making me smile and laugh, I'll miss you.

Yep that sucks. A similar situation with our cat a couple years ago. Had her at least 14 years. Wouldn't eat, last few days couldn't touch her.

Sorry to hear that. I always find it sad when a pet gets old and you think of how it was when it was young. In a way they don't live long enough but if they lived longer it would be even harder.

Sorry for your loss frown I have found that getting another ASAP really eases the pain and feel that the one that crossed over the rainbow bridge would want you to do so, For yourself as well as to give another a good life wink

We had two Yorkshire terriers. The oldest (14 years) was dying from kidney failure and we had to give her peace. This was about six months ago. Then the second one (9 years) came down with an aggressive tumor in her abdomen. She died on the table during surgery. This was about two months ago. I'm tearing up as I write this. Those little devils burrow into your heart and when they are gone, they leave a big hole.

Thanks.

We were already a multi cat family.

What was kind of nice to see was that the other four cats in the house could tell that there was something wrong and would curl up near him sometimes to keep him company.
They never got pissy/aggressive which was what we expected them to do.

They seem to feel his loss too, and know something is wrong/different.

We feed all the strays and neighbors cats outside too.

Sad news and sorry for the loss......pets are family and always sad to lose them. One of our cats was sitting on my lap as I wrote this........she hangs out with me all of the time and follows me everywhere just like her name my son gave her when we first found her SHADOW. Yes she's black and a sweetheart. Again Shadow and I are sorry to hear the sad news. angel

Our pets are one of the most wonderful things in our lives. They are family. I'm very sorry for your loss, I still miss my Catahoula Sweetie and it's been 10 years now. I still think of her everyday. We have a new Catahoula puppy now that is an awesome loving dog. My St. Bernard mix is over 12 years old now and I can see her hips are starting go. I don't know how long she has left but I'm really going to miss that girl too. She is such a good dog. She still has the heart of a puppy but the old body isn't what it used to be..

My almost 19 year old cat passed in February. His twin sister is still with us and looks like she will at least make it to her 19th birthday on 4-26. My condolences, it is tough to lose a pet, they are a member of the family. angel Here is Montrose Aloysius Zircon at Christmas 2019...

Awe I'm sorry about your fur baby. It is terrible, we can only give them love for a small part of our lives, but they give us love for all of theirs.
