How do other Mopar shows compare to the Spring Fling ? - 02/01/20 06:04 AM

I like going to the Spring Fling show in Southern CA but have wondered how it compares to other show in other states. I know that it is small compared to the Ohio and Carlisle shows but how about the other shows that I see posted here?

Well, Me personally have never been to the spring fling.
BUT a very good friend of mine has . And he told me its nice show with cars most people at the other 2 will never see. BUT it doesn't come close to either the Nats or Carlisle . In Quality, swap meet size , car count or spectator attendance

I haven't been to any MoPar-only shows in a few years - all are pretty far away from me - but I've been to Spring & Fall Flings, Las Vegas & Carlisle in the past.

Spring Fling seemed bigger & better than Fall Fling, which was still pretty worthwhile.
Vegas seemed to have a lot of the same everything as Spring Fling, though Vegas' swap meet stuff seemed higher-priced. Bonus: drag racing & more race vendors.
Carlisle was simply gigantic, a 2-day affair just to walk through & see everything, lots more rare stuff & more incredible cars.

Mopars at the Red Barn at Gilmore Car Museum have around 450 mopars each year plus all the Gilmore cars you can view. Plus swap meet.

I love the fling shows, if you go make sure you do the Malibu Cruise on Friday, it’s a fun morning. Not as huge as Carlisle or the Nats but a very nice well run casual show with great people and organization. Size wise Spring is similar to the Big Daddy show in Ocala. Fall is A bit smaller but still a great show. If you go also hit Bobs Big Boy Friday night there will be MoPars and tons of other stuff there too.

You should ask Frankenduster. He's our resident expert about all of the Mopar shows.

Spring Fling is April 18 and 19, 2020. Free Spector admission

The show cars on Sunday are 50-60% different than Saturday. Sunday is judged so that brings the more rare restored stuff

Remember there are 11 million people that live less than an 1 1/2 hour drive from the show. So many owner bring one of their Mopars on Saturday and another one on Sunday. There are over 450 different Mopars at the show over the weekend. Lots of under and unrestored Mopars since our climate is so nice to them.

Mopar Swap is largest West of Mississippi. 160-175 swappers. About 4-5 times the size of MATS swap.

What’s unique is we don’t charge a lot for swap spots and we tend to get swappers just getting rid of excess stuff.

It’s only a 13 acre area. So we keep things tight and organized. We don’t have he luxury to spread out. I’m sure there are shows that look and free bigger, that number wise are not.

Spring Fling is definetly bigger than Florida Garlits Show.
Garlits Show declined a lot since it went to the horsetrack.
Probably smaller than Fall Fling now

I have been to both Carlisle and Spring Fling. They are probably the best two shows but they each have a different flavor.

Carlisle is massive. The parts section can easily take 6+ hours to walk through. The cars that are invited to be housed in the buildings are truly amazing. There are some pretty interesting cars in the car corral for sale. The reunions are fantastic. The only problem with Carlisle is the weather. If the weather is bad a lot of cars are left at home and the parts don't come out. It can be very muggy so bring water. If the weather is good it's incredible.

Spring Fling is really two different shows. Saturday is a larger swap with less cars. It takes about 1 1/2 hours to walk the swap. On Sunday is when the car judging is done so you get more cars and better cars. The great thing about Spring Fling is that the weather is almost always perfect. So turn out is pretty good.

It should be noted that both shows FEEL like they are getting smaller. Specially in the parts sections.

Actually the show car field count is always larger on Saturday. Last year 23.9% more Mopars Saturday than Sunday. In 2016; 22.1% more Saturday

It looks bigger Sunday because the cars are more spread out parked in classes. Also, the more you swap Saturday, the less time to look at show cars.

Perception is reality when it comes to these deals. Unless you physically count every car, swap, and tabulate every paid entry its hard to judge. We could spread Spring Fling over a larger location and I would appear bigger. Layout is a big factor.
