How many more have been added to the list 1966 Hemi - 08/28/18 04:13 AM

Looking through some old News Letters from the Eighties and came across some known production numbers, just wondered if any more have been added to this list.

WL41H6 1966 CORONET DELUXE 4 DOOR SEDAN ---- 2
WH41H6 1966 CORONET 440 4 DOOR SEDAN ---- 1
RH45H6 1966 BELVEDERE II 6 PASS WAGON ---- 1

WL21J7 1967 CORONET DELUXE 2 DOOR SEDAN ---- 1
WH23J7 1967 CORONET 440 2 DOOR HT ---- 1
RL21J7 1967 BELEVELLE I 2 DOOR SEDAN ---- 1
RH23J7 1967 BELEVILLE II 2 DOOR HT ---- 3
RP23J7 1967 SATELLITE 2 DOOR HT ---- 4
RP27J7 1967 SATELLITE CONVERTIBLE ---- 1

Scott Smith you seem to have a liking for these cars. Nothing like a shoe box with a Hemi.

It's changed a bit, but I'm not sure when your list was compiled in the 80's, I'd guess early 90's would be more likely? I added some totals that I have handy in parenthesis next to your numbers. I am sure there are more updates than I listed but I'd need to look into my records a bit deeper to confirm them before I post.

WL41H6 1966 CORONET DELUXE 4 DOOR SEDAN ---- 2
WH41H6 1966 CORONET 440 4 DOOR SEDAN ---- 1
RH45H6 1966 BELVEDERE II 6 PASS WAGON ---- 1

WL21J7 1967 CORONET DELUXE 2 DOOR SEDAN ---- 1
WH23J7 1967 CORONET 440 2 DOOR HT ---- 1
RL21J7 1967 BELEVELLE I 2 DOOR SEDAN ---- 1 (4)
RH23J7 1967 BELEVILLE II 2 DOOR HT ---- 3 (12)
RP23J7 1967 SATELLITE 2 DOOR HT ---- 4 (5)
RP27J7 1967 SATELLITE CONVERTIBLE ---- 1 (2)

List is from around 1989. I forgot about that 67 Bel four door. There use to be a four door in Europe is this the one. I wonder who owns that Hemi Wagon and if any others are out there.

Yes the 4 door in Finland. I have never seen proof that the wagon exists, maybe Galen has a VIN?

what about the early 1966 H coded engine cars that were really 426wedge equipped?

have any of those hemi cars been found to be the street wedge cars?

I thought those were Mr. Norm special orders?

wasn't the wagon a special order tow vehicle for garlitts or someone?

I’ve also heard several stories on the wagon but no one ever provides proof.

I doubt the Garlits story but not into these cars....always will defer to Dan or Scott on this.

There is a monthly feature in Hemmings Classic Cars called "I was there" where a different person each month who worked in the auto industry in the 50's, 60's or 70's in some capacity writes a article about his experience. There have been articles by engineers, designers, factory line workers and more.
A year or two ago there was a "I was there" feature by someone who'd been a west coast regional sales manager for Chrysler in the 60's, and one story he shared was about a time a casino in Vegas really wanted a wagon with a 426 hemi to use as a courier vehicle or something like that. They had engineering review the request, and after they researched the work required, they gave the casino a pretty high cost estimate for the special order, something like $3000-4000 to put a hemi in a wagon. The casino decided that was too expensive and didn't place the order.
I need to dig through my clutter and find that issue, that was an interesting "I was there"!

That man is in the Chrysler 300 club and still telling the stories from back in the day. Fun stuff. The casino owner was Bill Harrah

I believe there is or was a picture in one of the NHOA News Letters of the four door Bel. I think the Four Door Bel. was blue in color but I could be wrong that was 35 years ago.

There is a picture of Richard Petty standing in front of a 1966 that has the 426 Badge on the fender and the body line looks like a Wagon. In the picture you can not see most of the back end of the car only about the middle forward. I think it was in a Hot Rod Magazine. Petty Ent. maybe had some extra badges for the picture in front of the car who knows it could of been the real deal made for them by Chrysler.

The one I reference was dark green- not the blue one. Please refer to the Best of Moparts archive, the thread "66-67 Dodge & Plymouth, 4-door Hemi cars". My father ordered it new, bought it back in 1973 and owned it until stolen in 1980.

I heard Bill Harrah ordered a Hemi wagon in 66. he also owned the dealership in town here at that time. he also owned a 66 Hemi satellite that is currently in the auto museum in town. I have also heard he ordered anther 66 hemi car and gave it to a family friend. Supposedly, he ordered the wagon to transport money between his casinos in Reno and Lake Tahoe

If the one pictured above is the 66 Coronet 'deluxe' in NYS, it has been restored now.
