72 Cuda V21 Performance hood treatment Organisol?

72 Cuda V21 Performance hood treatment Organisol? - 11/15/11 11:32 PM

I am seeking factory documentation ie PROOF on whether or not the factory used organisol paint on the 1972 Cuda V21 performance hood treatment. The paint chart only shows a flat black, but wasn't the texture added as a powder in some early factory applications, so maybe that showed up in a service manual how to? if it was a PPG product it would not have been on the R.M chart? Even something on the tail panel showing the paint it used and that it should be textured might help me.

Thanks

I have not found any 1972 `Cuda paint drawings, but did find a 1972 Charger paint drawing with Organisol used... I will look some more.

Cool, thanks so much. I'd love to see the Charger info. If you attach that file here I'd like to add it to an old V21 thread for reference as well. Thanks again

Thanks so much, if you happen to run across the 71 Duster black out hood treatment schematic Scott Smith and Dennis would both probably benefit from this as well. Scott was seeking info on this a short time ago.... so any hood treatment stuff you find and post I can will add to that old V21 post

This pic is of an EV2 1972 Cuda door top from a V21 car still in it's original factory paint. The molding has been removed, this shot shows the paints texture. The molding helped preserve the texture I'm sure. I received this pic just today courtesy of member scatpacktom

Does anyone have or know of where I might find the factory diagram detailing this option? Thanks Bob

We finally got the garage cleaned out, took the whole darn family...I'll have photos of my original paint hood for you tomorrow. This hood was removed when neary new, the original owner purchased a new AAR hood from the dealer shortly after taking delivery of the car.
Any particular views you would like to see?

Thanks again so much for your help. I will be sure to share any other info I find on this option. This info has been hard to find, as for desired pictures:
1- Pictures of the side/edges and front to detail how the factory taped off the edges.
2- An overall shot from the top
3- Up close shots in varying light to capture detail the texture/finish of the paint possibly with a coin for size reference.

I will PM you my email address and if you want to send a multitude of shots that would be great
Can you compare the a few of the dimensions to these below? (Courtesy of Blaine Kelly's CYBER CUDA website):

KEY:

A = 20" UP from hood edge (nose side). 9 5/16" between red areas
B = 39" UP from hood edge (nose side). 9 9/16" between red areas
C = from bottom vent corner (passenger side vent hole; hole closest to middle of hood). 11 1/4" to red
D = 11 1/4" from hood lip (windshield side) to red. ** (Align togther with point 'C')
E = 9 3/16" hood lip (windshield side), going over 6th vent (from center of hood) hole
F = 9 10/16" hood lip (windshield side), going over 13th vent (from center of hood) hole
G = 10 10/16" hood lip (windshield side), going over 5th vent (from driver's side fender) hole
H = 15 3/4" from CORNER of hood lip (windshield side) to red ** (align together with point 'I')
I = 46" up from hood edge (nose side). 9 1/4" IN from hood edge (driver's side fender edge)
J = 36" UP from hood edge (nose side). 6 15/16" from edge to red
K = 25" UP from hood edge (nose side). 6 13/16" from edge to red
L = 13" UP from hood edge (nose side). 6 13/16" from edge to red
M = AT hood edge (nose side). 6 11/16" from edge to red

1 = 4" UP from hood edge (nose side). 6 11/16 from edge to red
2 = 21 1/4" - from edge to far side of first 'red' scallop
3 = 30 9/16" - from edge to near side of 2nd 'red' scallop (not pictured)
4 = 45 10/16" - from edge to far side of 2nd 'red' scallop (not pictured)
5 = 52 1/8" - total width of hood from driver's side to passenger side (not pictured)

# 3,4 & 5 are not shown on picture, but would be a continuation of the line between
points #1 & #2. This 'line' was measured starting at 4" above the hood egde (nose side)

Re: 72 Cuda V21 Performance hood treatment Organisol? - 11/27/11 05:50 PM

As an option no break down will exist. However it was only a Cuda option for 72 (not Barracuda's) so it's less than the number of 72 Cuda's

moparbrown14 your pic upload faild. Can you retry that? I am very interested in seeing your car.

Is this info correct?

EDIT heres a V21 post started in 2007 that's still alive you can see a few different colors. I need to add a few more 72 V21 Cuda promo shots to it. You should add your car https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...rue#Post6930268

Re: 72 Cuda V21 Performance hood treatment Organisol? - 11/29/11 06:08 PM

In 72 the color code would be A4. It was also avaiable in 71. In certain light it does look blue. The 73 gray color is A5 and is quite a bit darker...and doesn't look blue.

The color does look like A5 in your picture but that was a 73 only color. The side stripes in that picture aren't the 72 style. That's the 73-74 style stripe. Could the car have been repainted A5 instead? Check out this link. It is a color chart made by one of the members of this site. The color names are different for Dodge but the accual colors are the same.

I really like the V21 option with the A4 color. There is an A4 72 Cuda that shows up at the Mopars on the Mississippi show almost every year. It doesn't have the V21 option though.

i have owned both cars since 1979 and i dont think the gray car was ever painted. i know it has the 73-74 stripe on the sides. it was made late june 72 so i dont know. maybe someone ordered it that way. you can never tell, they did alot of one ofs back then. i just know they are mine and will not part with either one. hope one day i can restore the gray one like i want it. it still has 1981 plates on it. i push it out every so often to bathe her then put it under the covers. lol. if i can just get this damn house paid off lol
