71 cuda tail panel emblem questions - 11/15/11 07:32 PM

Hi!

I have a 71 Barracuda and I notice that it has 3 holes for I suppse what would be the "Barracuda" script emblem, and then 2 under it, for the "by plymouth" emblem.

However, when looking at my original 71 440.6 cuda , I notice the 2 holes for the "by plymouth" emblem, but no holes for a "cuda" emblem.

Whats the deal here? How should it be? Where the factory "cuda" tail panel emblems stick ons?

How are the repro tail panel cuda emblems? Stick on or post? How were the originals?

I agree - at least in my case my original panel has the 2 holes for the by Plymouth emblem and thats it - original paint still on inside of panel with no evidence of any other holes - Joe

That drawing is for a 1970 'Cuda. The 1970 did not have the "by Plymouth" emblem. Both years the cuda was stuck on with double sided tape

Correct, 71 was the first year of the "By Plymouth" emblem on Cuda's. As far as the "Cuda" emblem itself, yes, glue/tape was used. Some VERY early 70 model Cuda's could have had a pre production pin style Cuda emblem, so far I've only seen one example and it was on a pilot car.

The drawing illustration shows a 1970 `Cuda, BUT THE DRAWING COVERS BOTH 1970 & 1971 MODELS. SEE ATTACHMENT...

The non cuda model would typically have the Barracuda text emblem. The cuda models would typically have the 'cuda emblem.

However, I had a 1971 340 cuda from a salvage yard. It was a cuda, but had the Barracuda text emblem on the tail panel. It's the only time I've ever seen that on a cuda. I'm guessing a factory worker installed the wrong emblem. See the top panel in the photo.

Isn't there an assembly print or a dealer installation instruction drawing floating around somewhere?

Not an engineering drawing like posted.

For 1971...
