fuel pump painted engine color or not?

fuel pump painted engine color or not? - 10/28/11 12:58 AM
Probably going to be putting in a new fuel pump soon into our small block 70 challenger convert. Since the engine is all detailed up, I wanted to know if the fuel pump was attached prior to the engine receiving the paint or was it installed after the engine was painted? I know big blocks had the fuel pump installed prior to paint but I am not sure about the small blocks. I would imagine they would be the same as its big brother.

ok, so the bare cast alluminum and the cadium plated part of the pump? Sounds like it is time for some RPM on that part then!

Barry, that pic just reminded me.....The 71 340 I just bought still had that round head nylon push in retainer in the head (the one that holds that paper tag on) but mine didn't have the tag any longer.

Mike that is a picture from that low mile FY1 Mr Norms T/A that turned up west of here a while back, that Barry documented and made the pictures available on a DVD he sells.

I do not know what it means either. None of the numbers match up to the engine assembly numbers on the broadcast sheet. One of many small mysteries.......

This shows all of the numbers. I bet the small 25 is an inspectors stamp.

The back side, note that it was installed while the engine paint was still wet. So, it was installed at the Windsor engine assembly plant before the engie was sent to Hamtramck to be installed in a car.

It could relate to may things, batch number, inspector, assembly person, etc. Or it could relate to the application similar to part/assembly numbers, TA/AAR, 4 speed/auto trans, etc.

It's intriguing that the tag stayed on the motor, when it appears that someone installed headers. Wonder if it was some sort of Routing tag or delivery location?

When was the car built? I wonder if the 147 could refer to a date, as in 14th day, month 7.

The way its punched out it almost looks like a shipping/routing card, maybe went on the container, rack, and even on a few engines inside the container/rack, doesn't look to me like it has anything to do with the engine itself. Just a wild guess..

Car was built in April. Final assembly date on the engine is Feb. 17, 1970
