67 gtx rocker moldings installation ?? - 09/21/11 05:38 PM
How do you install the rocker panel moldings on a 67 Plymouth b-body. The front butterfly clips are on each side (never took them off when painting the car). I have a set of new plastic clips but don't know where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated............

Did your rocker panels have rivets sticking out that the plastic clips mount to, then you snap the rocker molding over the plastic clips . . . or did you replace the rocker panels and no longer have these studs ?? If that is the case, then you have to drill holes in the rockers and install rivets for the plastic clips, or screw the clips on . . . .
Hope that helps . . .
Cheers

The 67 GTX does not use any rivets.
The clips are plastic and they have the 4 fingers that push into a hole on the body, then you push a round plastic dowel in the hole to expand the fingers. The butterfly clips go into the back of the moulding, put the stud through the hole in the fender, snap the rocker moulding over the plastic clips described above, install the nut on the butterfly clip. Done.

Thanks for the reply, you are correct about the plastic clips and the holes already there. Is there a trick to getting the butterfly clip to lock into the molding with the butterful clip still on the car ? Or do I have to remove the butterfly clip from the car, insert it into the molding and then secure the butterfly clip from behind ?
Thanks again..........

Yes, the metal butterfly clip should be secured in the molding first. Those moldings dent easily (Ask me how I know) so be gentle and avoid bumping it in the middle when snapping it on the plastic clips.

Thanks for all replies, I followed silver bullets advise and the mouldings are on. They look good and are very tight & secure
