Transmission numbers don' make sense! - 09/12/11 04:09 AM

I bought an early B-body 833, the numbers on the stamp are pp833 4326 and above it was G266937, I know that the G is the serial number of the car, but the date does not match what I found in searches, anyone have any thing to clarify this? Thanks Tim

G is the plant code. (St. Louis)

4326 is June 1, 1973.

Is there a 3 in front of the G?

No 3 in front of the G, and its a flanged yoke early B body with a 4.35 input bearing flange. That is why I am confused about the date...Tim

Seems to be a mis-stamp...
I have a '69 casting Hemi but with a '66 assembly date. Looks like someone flipped the "9" over and made a "6" out of it.
Your tranny probably should have been stamped 1963... Someone could have easily grabbed a "7" since it follows six..

Can you get a clear photo of the numbers & post it?

'67 & earlier pp833s don't have the VIN pad. Sounds like it is pieced together.

No it's OBVIOUS that the trans is a hodge podge of parts as the 63 trans case , actually wasn't 64 the first year for the 833 ??? , didn't have the ID pad on the side of the case.

The trans is anything but something that was factory assembled.

edit ... I see Dan beat me to it

Ok, I got some pics, it has 3 grooves in the cluster gear, and brass shift forks. My other tranny has steel shift fork and no grooves. Here is what I have. Oh and there was a 3 infront of the G. My bad. Tim

It's not an original trans , it is a 73 case from a edit ... St. Luois ... built car , someone swapped the mainshaft and tailshaft housing from a an early ball and trunnion driveshaft onto the front half of the trans along with the side cover it would seem because of the brass forks , 71 and later transmissions used the side cover with the interlock levers and iron forks.

Ok, so I need to figure out what transmission I need to build. I am building a 572 hemi with 9.5-1 compression. I dont have enough money to build a 18 spline and eventually want to do the Passon 5 speed. I have a Dana with 3.55 gears, so do I combine the 2 transmissions and build a close ratio 23 spline or wide ratio? Tim
