Cuda window channel sealing "tape" ? - 08/26/11 11:53 AM

I need to know what to use to relace the original sealing type "tape" on my Cuda's side window channels see pic. Also does anyone have a diagram to help with installation.....it's been awhile. Does the tape have a layer between the channel and trim, as well as the body and channel? And is it the same material?

70-71
(2) rolls of 1/8"x7/8" black poly foam to seal between the weatherstrip channel and the roof,
(2) rolls of 1/16"x3/4" dark gray soft foam with adhesive on one side to seal the weatherstrip channel to the drip rail.

In 72 Mopar changed the "dark gray soft foam tape" to 1/8" thick from 1/16". I recently changed my kits to cover 70-74 and have been just using the thicker tape.

I used the tape in 71TA's kit. It worked great on my 73. It had the same type tape on it originally.

My 73 used the adhesive backed tape on both areas. Between the body and the drip rail trim AND between the drip rail trim and the weatherstripping channel. I also used the DMT kit and it worked great.

Guys how much if any should the top wrap around and into the channel? It goes under the channel/trim?

I still have my original top. I was able to remove it in one piece. It was trimmed off right at the edge of the drip rail. It did not wrap around it at all. That's how I trimmed my new top. I originally had some material wrapped around the edge but the drip rail trim didn't want to go on very smoothly. It went right on once I trimmed the excess.

I found a piece of my original top under the molding when I removed the existing aftermarket top. It doesn't really mean anything. Here is what I found in the reproduction 72 factory service manual

Sorry but it's a PDF file and not easily document export friendly...

It is worse than that, it is a 'protected' PDF. You can cut and paste from PDF if it is unprotected.
One huge tip on applying the vinyl. Follow the adhesive directions to the letter. I rushed mine, the VOCs in the glue did not disipate enough before I laid it down and months later, the off gassing had created bubbles under the vinyl all over the roof. It will be replaced in a few weeks.
