Mounting Challenger to Auto Rotisserie

Mounting Challenger to Auto Rotisserie - 09/26/08 06:59 PM

I am finally going to get to work on the body of my R/T over the winter. I picked up an auto rotisserie and the unibody brackets for mounting the car to it. I can see how they work for attaching to the rear bumper bracket bolt holes, but I'm not sure how to mount the front of the car. Should I just drill holes in the front arms of the rotisserie or is there another bracket that I am missing? It is an Auto Twirler rotisserie.

Sorry, I don't have any pics I can use at the moment.

Two front mounting bolts are better than one but I've done two cars like this now.

I think when you set it up, before drilling mounting holes in your brackets, you should make sure the front & rear mounting holes are on a level plane. (equidistant from floor if you have a level floor) This will ensure the front & rear pivot points of the rotisserie are on a level plane and won't bind while turning, and will also assist in load balancing so that the car is less likely to spin on its own due to weight imbalance. (floor/frame of the car is heavier than the roof)

Thanks. Those pics help.

Yes, it will be on a level surface before I mount it.

From the pics, it looks like each arm of the rotisserie is only attached to the body by 1 bolt. Wouldn't that cause problems with movement of the body when you turn it over? How is the center of gravity with the arms in the positions pictured?

I'm not recomending 1 bolt in front, but that's how I've done it on two different cars with no problem. It's because I am too lazy and always in a hurry to make a plate that would catch both bumper bolt holes. It never moved and I transported the car twice and have spun the car round and round. Also making a plate I figured would change the center of gravity and you know we all don't like change if it's working. So I left it like is and mounted up the second car. I also did'nt want to modifiey it any more than necessary so I keep my opitions open for other cars without buying more arms from Auto Twirler.

BTW I don't feel the rear bumper bracket bolt holes are strong enough to bolt too, that's why I bolted up the rear spring hanger hole.

Are the small brackets you used for the rear mounnting welded to the arms or bolted?

Bolted...2 5/16" bolts with 1/2-13 bolt going through the frame. I did this one nite when I first got this rotisserie and did not have a welder at home. It never gave me any trouble so I left it like it was and spent my time on the car.

Mines like above with two holes and use the rear bumper bolt holes with no problem. I want put any more weight on them than the body panels, fenders, doors, trunk lid, etc...

I pretty much put mine back togeather on the spit, so it was plenty strong. When it came time for the rear springs and axle is when I took it off. It made it easier to slightly tilt the car one way or another when doing stuff.

You must be living a charmed life! All of that weight and only one bolt in front.
Beautiful car, by the way.
