Who sells the decal kits to make coil w/ grn lettering - 07/10/11 06:25 PM

I know that at one time someone sold a decal kit as to where you could by a stock black coil (ie) from a parts suppiler and install their decal kit and it looked like a orginal green lettered coil is this still avaliable and if so who has them.

I need one too. If you could customize one with the date code you need that would be perfect.

LOL, wanna bet there will be several vendors who sell or will chime in with the coil ($15 or less) with the decal ($75) or more. Aww Ive got a headache and Im grouchy. Add me to the list too. This would be a good lil project for ECS. But alas I doubt the market is stout for this kind of low dollar item.

I would almost think most local print shops would probably make these up for you obviously if you have the correct part # example to go by, but it would be awesome if somebody would just come out with them..

Try performance car graphics. The last that I knew he would paint it on and looked great and was affordable.

i imagine it would look better, as a dry transfer decal. only way to get it thin enough, outside of making the rubberstamp, and just stamping them yourself.

That's sorta been my thoughts for awhile.. I also thought about having a rubber stamp set made up or match up a set that is close.

I can imagine he is doing pretty well with what he has going on now. Yea I would like to have one of these myself, but if Im a vendor I dont know if its worth it......on the other hand, I think this is a minor investment kind of thing.......on the other hand, doesnt this have the Pentastar logo on it. That means licensing, so it may not be worth it. And finally on the other hand could a man sell enough of these to make it worthwhile? Now Im outta other hands....

Hi everyone,

We're about 2 weeks away from having this project completed and available for sale. It's going to be a dry transfer just like we do with the dash Vin Tag transfers we offer. We're going to do the style prior to the 1972 graphics change so it can be used on mid 60's thru 1971. It's the 2495531 part number which is used on all engines. We will have multiple date codes available for early 69 cars thru late 71 cars if date coding is what you are after. You could also apply it and not use the date code if desired. We used the coil from " Project Valiant " as our model since it's an original production part and in great shape.

Our thoughts are to leave coil selection and procurement to the user since some may want to take a higher output coil and make it look like an original - your choice.

Our target price is $24.00 ( plus shipping )which is the same as the dash Vin transfer we offer.

Let me know your feedback on this. We had been looking at this product and your feedback and discussion here helped firm up this project.

If anyone is going to SEMA this year ECS will be an exhibitor with RPM and AMMO plus other products.- Booth 24199 in the Restoration Section just up from Mopar Alley.

I did that for my volatage regulator once... still have the stamp. It takes allot of practice to stamp them right, the amount of paint and pressure while applying vary results

Anyone have pictures of the pre 72 lettering and the 72+? Obviously 72+ parts are going to be a tough sell but I still need to come up with something for my 73.

I talked to Dave about a voltage regulator stamp awhile back. He said his cost to have a stamp made is $50. He said he would have one made if I wanted him to but didn't know how much I wanted to spend.

Re: Who sells the decal kits to make coil w/ grn lettering - 07/13/11 02:46 PM

Mopar issued a engineering change to show a change over from the early style coil to the later coil markings. So there should be an up and after coil markings. Both shown here.

I'm going off of memory, but I believe the print was dated mid-novemeber 1967. And if you figure approx 30 to 60 days to allow for the change to show up in production. That puts it approx the 1st of Jan 1968 to show up on the production line.

Early style - pre Jan 1968

late style - post Jan 1968 and up to and approx early 1972

Re: Who sells the decal kits to make coil w/ grn lettering - 07/14/11 04:30 AM

I'm soaking my original coil in EvapoRust right now. The lettering is starting to reappear. If anyone cares, I can post some pics later. The lettering is a very light green.

Although very similar, my coil says MADE IN U.S.A. right below the part number. The older style font is very crisp compared to what I see on mine. Mine definately looks like a stamp where the older one looks like a dry transfer.

I can post some pics tonight.

I did the dry transfer thing to my FBO coil (which recently crapped out)
I could only find white transfers at the time....came out pretty good but was time consuming.

Re: Who sells the decal kits to make coil w/ grn lettering - 07/18/11 03:29 AM

My 1972 was made in Canada, and Performance Car Graphics made a coil for me. If memory serves I sent them my original coil and they replicated it very nicely. I think it was the first one they done that had "made in Canada". It was for a 225, if that matters.

Mine only had/has Made in Canada in the green lettering...not embossed. I still have the original here somewhere.

I can post pics if needed, I must have some digital before and after pics somewhere.

Re: Who sells the decal kits to make coil w/ grn lettering - 07/19/11 12:54 AM

Hi everyone,

There has been a lot of good feedback generated on the coils. I think we are finding that there are several differences showing up even within the 69-71 range. We are seeing differences in 1970 and 1971 coils even though they have the same information. Additionally we have the Canadian made coils entering the mix.

The later vehicles 72-74 have completely different graphics. Having owned( 20 years) and restored a 74 Challenger myself I understand the challenges on the later years. '74's are almost a stand alone year with many parts and changes unique to a 74 (which wasn't even a full year production). It's like the small block vs big block on the other years.

We've got the artwork completed for the 70 model year. To do a transfer correctly requires quite a set up. Naturally we want the items to be as correct as possible.
How far should we take this?

Hi Guys,

Here is an example of the green coil transfers - hot off the press. It was transferred onto a black background for easy viewing. They are very easy to apply, impervious to chemicals and an accurate match to the originals. The cost is $24 each. A perfect alternative for those who want a factory original look but without the hassle of hand stamping. Dates range from early 1969 to late 1971.

JD,
241 is an essix coil - typically green lettering
242 is a prestolite coil - typically yellow lettering

typically -
Essis has the 'made in usa' in ink print
prestolite has it cast into the top near the tower

Hi Guys,

In reviewing the posts I notice that there were several handraisers and I wanted to make sure everyone was aware that the coil transfers are in stock now and available for shipping.

We wanted to supply two sides of the market based on the interest voiced as the post has progressed. 1. We can supply several date ranges that would be correct from late 69 thru 71. 2. We also have interest from the group that wants a correct as possible looking coil but specific date ranges are not a requirement.

If you want a date code that associates with your vehicle we can accomodate that from late 69 thru 71. Some people have expressed interest in taking a HP coil, but making it look as close as possible, you can order any of the transfers but either cut the date out of the transfer or just not rub that portion when transferring to your freshly painted coil.

These transfers apply in the same manner as the dash vin transfers and are very durable.

SEMA is just around the corner ! If you make it to SEMA stop by and visit us at Booth 24199 in the Restoration Section of the Show - just a few steps away from the MOPAR ALLEY display. We will have a sample of RPM treated parts that we have pictured elsewhere on Moparts

Tom,

Can you order a specific date for the decal? I asked today when ordering but Charlie didn't know. I was looking for "3370" or something close. What date options are there, if not available for a specific date?
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Who sells the decal kits to make coil w/ grn lettering - 10/22/11 02:40 AM

Hi Guys,

Great question on the dates. The coils are dated by weeks. We tried to break it down by early, mid, and late where possible. It has been noted that coils may be as late as a week away from the vehicle built date or as much as 3 months prior.

Here are the dates ( weeks) we have:

early 69 - 298 : week 29 of 1968
mid-late 69 - 129
early 70 - 289
mid 70 - 469
late 70 - 120
early 71 - 280
late 71 - 460

Of course if you just want the coil graphics without the date any of the above would work and either cut that portion out or just not rub that portion .

The 241 coil seems to be the highest volume . Certainly other coils are out there but making proper transfers is actually an involved process. We'll try and get these on the website as soon as possible with all the information. It seems like there is always another project in preparation for SEMA! We were at our second location making RPM today so Charlie didn't even have all the information yet.

Hope this helps.

Hi Brian,

Great question. a "toll" is a small device we include with the coil transfer to help apply it to the coil. " toll" results when you post without spell check. The more common term is "tool". Amazing how one letter changes the whole meaning. Thanks for the catch.

By the way your order is being processed. It was a close race on who would be the first order - almost a photo finish !

Almost time for SEMA. We will be in booth 24199 in the Restoration Area in the main hall - very close to Mopar Alley. We'll have part of the Challenger in the booth ( at least 8 feet ) plus we have a demo for RPM that mirrors one of the independent tests. Have you heard the saying a "penny for your thoughts"?

I didn't care if I was the first or the last when I ordered. Actually it was good to talk to Dave since we haven't chatted for a while. Always great to see a new quality product come out from ECS. Are you sure you don't want to "change" your mind with that "penny for your thoughts?" ha ha. As for the "toll", now I understand what you mean. Of course I couldn't wait till later!!
All went well EXCEPT for the "D" and the "A" on the back in the "Made in USA" wording.
Most likely my fault....either I didnt clean it enough or maybe the coil was too cold.
Before I started I cleaned the coil with alcohol and heated it up some with a heat gun (maybe not enough) & heated the transfer for a few seconds as well like the included instructions stated...

No matter how I "rubbed it" the A wouldnt come off & part of the D as well...

Overall the front main area came out perfectly & couldn't be happier!

Quick way to turn a boring coil into a nice looking Mopar piece.

back on & ready to rock!!
