Mike, I can't believe you have any doubt about this? All 69 and earlier 440 and 440-6 had a 5/16". Only the Hemi had a 3/8". I have replaced many original sets of lines on both and this has been discussed on the Forum(s) often. Personally, I go with the 3/8" Hemi set when I replace my 440 lines. It's an upgrade that I like to do...along with the 70 Carter fuel pump replacement which has a 3/8" inlet. I use 5/16" out from there. Looks perfectly stock!

John, nobody was commenting so I thought I'd throw something out to kickstart the thread.....still it was for a '68 440 and didn't really know details on '68 440's......that's my story and I'm sticking to it

1969 and older - only the Hemi got the 3/8" main line

3/8" sender and a 5/16" line with a 1/4" return is factory correct

Thanks for all the input. the gas filter has 3/8 and 1/4 nipples the and the metal line are 5/16 going to carb .is this right? and i force the 5/16 rubber hose over 3/8 filter.

I'm with 440 Beep.Every 68 and 69 L code I've seen has 3/8" sender,3/8" main line 1/4" return and 3/8" pump inlet with 5/16" from pump to carb.

Re: 68 GTX FUEL LINE SIZE - 06/16/11 11:59 AM

Nigel,
I'm just the opposite. I've never seen anything but a 5/16" main line on any non Hemi car I've worked on.

I just removed the 100% factory original fuel lines, tank and sender off a 1969 Charger R/T

It had the typical 3/8" sender but everything else is 5/16" and a standard 1/4" return

all 4 of my 1969 GTX's have been exactly the same way. Friend of mines 68 GTX I did work on this past fall is the same.

I have a 440 Daytona coming in soon, and I'll ck it.
Recently I have had a customer saying his Daytona was 100% factory original with a 3/8" main line as you mentioned. So maybe it's a late in the model year date thing. OR possibly a build plant nuance.

My old '69 GTX's were -
2 - St Louis plants - 1 = Jan 69 build + 1 = Feb 69 build dates
2- Lynch Rd plants ( no idea of the build dates - I'll see if I can find my old paperwork on the 2 cars)

I'll ck the 1969 Charger I have in house today

Re: 68 GTX FUEL LINE SIZE - 06/16/11 05:09 PM

I'm not an expert or even close but I can tell you that I have a gas tank pick-up that was removed from a junkyard '68 GTX(440) about 20 years ago and it's 3/8".
So does that mean anything...

oh..and I also have the vapor canister...same as a Hemi.

Re: 68 GTX FUEL LINE SIZE - 06/16/11 11:26 PM

Yes - The sending units were 3/8. The line from the sender to the fuel pump is 5/16". Talking 68/69 here. Many people swear their cars have a 3/8" until they measure it properly.

My 68 R/T had a 5/16' main fuel line & 1/4" return.. It's going back together with a 3/8" main & 1/4" return....
