Year One Hemi H-Pipe 70 RR?

Year One Hemi H-Pipe 70 RR? - 06/05/11 08:48 PM

Anyone else have trouble with the fit of your Year One H-pipe on a 70 Hemi Road Runner?

Seems one muffler is way way out and the other other is slightly off the other way. No way will this fit without heat and bending.

Advice?

Thank you,

Yes ! Had to heat and bend one side, otherwise had trouble fitting the tailpipe on that side.

Was it so bad the muffler was about a couple of inches outside the frame rail if you left the H pipe hanging low?

This one looks like both sides are off with the pass side off at least 1.5" out at the muffler inlet and 1.0" at the muffler inlet (also out) on the driver's side.

Really sad to try to fit new mufflers and tailpipes on the car and then find it is the H-pipe that is so goofy. Darn it. Was the angle (up and down) also sort of weird or was it only the angle outward or inward?

Thank you for the "confirmation".

I sourced my H-pipe for my '67 from Year One, although it was 20 years ago. Mine located both mufflers to the left 4" because the right side pipe was too long. I cut the right side ball flange flair off and had it re-flaired. This shortened that side .75" and everything centered up.

My driver side needed to be bent inwards toward driveshaft, so the tailpipe would enter the muffler at the correct angle.

I have to do the same thing on 2 different install's to get the pipes centered enough so that the mufflers wouldn't hit the driveshaft. FYI....The mufflers are not supposed to be parallel to each other.
