Interior Code Question

Interior Code Question - 06/02/11 02:45 PM

I have a '73 Roadrunner with interior trim codes C-2, Y-4, and carpet code Y-7. Is there a blue print to tell me what each code means, what colour it describes, and where it applies? I have already figured out it seems to be a low production interior. Any help?

C2Y4

1973 Road Runner
C2 - C = "custom" & 2 = "vinyl bench seat" (w/Decor package)
Y4 - Y = "gold" & 4 is the shade (1-light to 9-dark)

Is the Y7 on a tag on the carpet? Y = "gold" & 7 is the shade

Y-7 is on the build sheet. The actual carpet has long ago disappeared. As I understand your reply the C-2 means nothing more then a Vinyl bench seat or does the 2 indicate the lighter colour? The seat was a light gold/darker gold-ish or buckskin colour insert.

Correct - "C2" is simply the Custom vinyl bench seat interior - the second two digits is the color. I have a Satellite Sebring Plus sheet & do not see where carpet color is indicated. What line & what does the box the info is in show?

There was only 1 gold bench seat interior available in a '73 Plymouth 2-door b-body. The number of different materials & shades of gold used would be consistant. Here's a page from the Trim & Color guide, more info can be found at Hamtramck-Historical

Information was on line 6, just in from the left margin highlighted in Yellow. Heading is Carpet-Mat, Carpet Colour Y7.
Thanks for the information on Hamtramck-Historical.

Now I see it , best guess it's a darker "gold" color than the interior. I don't have any sheets from '73 cars with gold interiors, but I found a couple of '74s.

In '74 the a-bodies used Y7 carpets in "gold" interiored cars, but the b-bodies used L7 carpets in "gold" interiored cars. (the "L" colored interiors were refered to as "parchment" & basically look dirty-white) So, if you are looking for a color match (start another thread asking for carpet pics of '73 Bs and or '73-'74 As with "gold" interiors - since thisa thread is getting lots of action ).

Re: Interior Code Question - 06/04/11 03:24 PM

Several years ago I attempted to find correct colour Carpets at all the usual suspect suppliers and manufacturers of Re-Po Carpets which turned out to be an exercise in futility. Not the most popular interior combination by far. I did the next best thing at the time and bought a set of carpets, more Brown-ish in colour, that will go with the seat upolstery and headliner. I resisted the old "Black goes with everything" line of thinking since "Black" does not "go" with everytning. I was most interested in what the codes ment in reference to the colour shading which you have answered quite nicely and I thank you very much.
I also noticed just how much everybody else chipped in with information. Tearin' it up, we are.
