E-Body Wiper Gear - 09/16/08 07:29 PM

Hello Folks, anyone know a source for the big wiper gear for the variable speed motor? Mine needs replacing in my '70 Challenger.

Also, I can't get it to park correctly. I noticed a piece of plastic is broken from that big gear, so I'm hoping that's at least part of my problem. The point on the front round plate appears intact and functional. I also tried another switch and that didn't help either, although I can't be certain the other switch was 100percent working, but it did carry through with the parking problem. The wipers will just stop wherever the power is turned off or ignition is stopped.

You need to contact Julesthewperman a member here. He is the Mr. KnowItAll when it comes to wipers.

Here is the correct gear for your application. Note that not all gears are the same even though many sellers
state 67-75. Not true.

Concerning your parking problems.
1) Could be a bad ground on your dash switch. Since your motor works it is not a bad ground on the motor.
2) Bad dash switch. The circuit breaker inside the switch maybe be burnt or defective.
3) Front switch plate on the motor itself is not making a good contact. Make sure the brass tang inside has a good
pressure and contact is clean.Make sure outside wires are soldered properly to their respective posts.
4) Blue wire connection on firewall or plug is not good. Check wires for breaks or oxidation.
Please do not ask me to sell you a gear as I need them to earn a living restoring motors.
Thanks
Jules

Thank you Jules! I won't ask, but I can wish.

I know they have a much cheaper kit for the 71+. The gear looks very similar. Will that work if I only use that part from the kit and the other parts from my existing motor?

Similar is the correct word.
If you could email me a picture of your internals, I can better guide you in your search.
Sometimes motors have been tampered with and internal components might have been changed so
I need to see what you have going right now.
My email is gdaddio@videotron.ca
In the meantime, a 71 and up gear may work if you find an early 71 model. Later models
had metal plates installed.

One other question for you. How do you align the round top plate when you put it back on? I've noticed there is a little tab that sticks out of it, but it looks like it could go in a few different positions.
