WTB e-body disc brake proportioning valves - 09/15/08 02:52 PM

I had my e-body disc brake propotioning values rebuilt but my brakes have a air leak and I believe it is coming from the PV. Fortunately, I see the repos are out now. Can anyone suggest where to purchase them? I see in-line tube sells them. Thanks

Are there more than one manufacturer of these? There's someone selling the complete two piece unit for $99.00 on E-Bay (the 2 pieces that are bolted together on the '70 E bodies). That's about 1/2 the price of both pieces from In-Line Tube.

Here is a picture of a 70 e-body disc brake proportioning valve, prior to Jan 1, 1970. It mounts on the frame under the drivers seat.

Be very careful to check the repro valve if you get one as some have a incorrect top piston that will lock your brakes and not release them. There is only one MFG of the valves but they are sold by everyone. You can check a repro by trying to blow air through the top with the top fitting tight. If it does not pass air it is a no go. I got one of the first runs so it may be corrected by now but check it to be sure. The fix ? You can use the original top piston in the reproduction valve and it will function properly. If you get a new one get it from Fine Lines. They have done further refining on this part to make it look more original and function correctly. I talked to the owner of Fine Lines at Carlisle about the defective valves ....he said that they would work with the Mfg to fix the problem.

The top piston on the left is the defective one as you can see it is missing the three ridges like the one on the right...and also the top washer is too big in diameter. This causes a restriction that will not let the brake fluid pass back and forth.

Actually, there are two different MFG's for the ebody disc brake valve, one is Inline Tube and the other from Fine Lines. Call Billy directly 330-335-5000 x19. I have 5 Cudas with nothing but Fine Lines product on them.

Re: WTB e-body disc brake proportioning valves - 09/16/08 08:58 PM

They are NOT made by Fine Lines or Inline Tube. The one I got was from First source performance, a e-bay reseller and it was the same part that FineLine and Inline had at Calsile as well as Mega parts and many others. They are made by one MFG and sold by many resellers. The one on display at Carsile in the Fine Lines booth was the same defective one I had from First Source. I had the owner of Fine Lines test it himself and he was suprised and said he would call the MFG and have the problem fixed. The ones with the bad piston in the pic above is for a 71-72 e-body or b-body. They may be fixed by now but many were sold befor they knew about the problem.

Actually that's not correct, there is two different manufactures of the disc brake valve, only one for the drum brake valve.

I would call Bob Groser (owner of Fine Lines) and he can explain the whole deal to you.

I emailed Inline Tube with a reference to this thread. Here is their response...

If this problem exists with our valves, we have yet to hear it. We have sold hundreds of these to our customers as well as to may other vendors on the market. We would like to hear if our valves are having problems so that we can address it but this has not been the case.

Inline Tube does manufacture our own valves. There are others that are now making this valve, so perhaps the issue is with there's. An easy way to tell if the valves are an Inline Tube product is by the INL that is stamped into every one of or valves with the exception of the front 3 port hold off valve.

The 2 part valve that is being sold on Ebay and by other vendors is not an Inline Tube product, it is made by MBM.

I tried to register on that board so that I could address this, but the board is not accepting new registrations at this time. If you are a registered user on this board, we would greatly appreciate you posting our response there.

We have also opened some of our valves and tried what one of the posters said and there is not problem with our valves.

Thank you

It is a shame to think someone would design and release a product that is defective, especially with the braking system. Thanks for the heads up.

I realize that this is a very old post/thread, but I was curious if anyone can give an update on this subject? Do the Inline Tube Prop Valves work as the originals ? I know that Fine Lines no longer sell these Prop Valves.

Not to high jack this thread, but does anyone do rebuilds on the originals?

BTT, so does anyone know if anyone rebuilds the originals as well as do the inline repo's work as good as the originals?

I called Brake/Equipment Warehouse in Minnesota a few weeks ago - they had done a few master cylinders for me a few years ago, they directed me to something called Musclecar Research at 571-262-1612...I didn't call but I googled it, it just listed parts to restore your original - like I said, I haven't called yet, but I want to restore my 71 setup...but I've had no luck on finding someone who can do it, I don't know anyone personally who has used the Inline Tube setup...Joe

Yes this is a old post and I have a newer valve for a 71 Challenger disk brake car from Bill at fine lines . The newer , redesigned valve works just as original . If you have one of the older MBM valves and your brakes will not release just swap the top piston from your old valve into the newer one. The problem I had with reusing the oem one is that it would not re seal on the new lines causing it to leak from several areas. the oem lines left a small impression in the soft brass seats that caused the leaks even after loosening and retightening the lines several times.

See the attached photo, while it shows the 1972 proportioning valves, the valves from other cars, vans or trucks may work in all but the most perfect restos.
