Correct 440-6 distributor vacuum advance unit - 03/31/11 03:42 PM
Would anyone happen to know whether a 1970 440 6 pack 4-speed distributor should have the long narrow vacuum advance (like a 69 440 dual point), or the shorter regular style vacuum advance? This would be for an early car. I know they changed distributors in January. Thanks in advance (no pun intended)

The early 70's used the 69 style "cast snout" vac can.....they changed to the newer style a little after that....I have seen October and November SPD cars with both styles.

Here is an NOS one piece unit. Note the number stamped on the arm.

Snoopy,
I believe that is the marking for "inches of vacuum to operate" and not a date code. 440+6 and Hemi ones look the same but have differing #'s on them to show the inches of vacuum each application called for.

70 440-6 = 11
70-71 426 Hemi = 9
Maybe degrees?
