I have powder coated 2 tanks. One has been on the car for 8 years and still looks great.I did mine in silver with a clear coat since was not original.

Different approach,...I polished out the galvinized finish on my new tank for my Daytona with 0000 steel wool by hand, then clear coated with Dupont Chromacolor Preimer clear coat,....almost 7 yrs it been on the car, rain or shine, thousands of miles, still looks like day one

Mike's looks good. Personally, I think any painted tank looks a little cheezy. I ordered three before I got the right one with the correct galvanized finish.

I would leave it the way it came.

Why would you paint a NEW tank ? Its plated already. My tank on my 71 Charger R/T is 12 years old and no signs of rust .
