E Body bucket seat hardware

E Body bucket seat hardware - 05/16/08 04:23 AM

Freshened up the bucket seat tracks in my 70 E body w/ paint and 2 NOS knobs (2583623) and looking at the under side hardware. First, the NOS knobs didn't come with a new set screw, and can't find a part number in parts catalog for one, any clues?

The LH seat looks to be missing a 'guide' - the RH side has one, and the PC only calls out for one on the RH seat (2486994.)

The PC calls out for 1 hook (2942556) per seat. The PC also calls out for 2 wires (3454001) for the LH seat, but mine only has one. Is this correct? And why two hooks if there is only one guide for RH seat?

The LH wire is too short to 'stretch' to meet the hook, so the hook is useless with this wire.

I must be missing the bigger picture, is there anything out of the ordinary that some one here notices?

Maybe the wire is the wrong one - too short? Or do both seats get a guide and parts catalog is wrong?

Thanks guys for any help on this.

Hey dgt71 - good one brother...touché!

Are there small spings in the track?

Yea beepbeep, thanks brother, there are 2 small springs per seat - total of 4. Any thoughts?

Looks like you have it.
Hardware store or junk yard for set screws.

The long spring on the right.....is that new or did you refurb the old ones?

Gavin,
The long springs were removed & placed into a container of laquer thinner and then along with the entire track assemblys later after tracks were degreased and brass wire brushed lightly to remove anything loose. The little side springs were removed and reinstalled later after Hardest part was waiting for the paint (Rustoleum - Rust Tough Semi-flat) to dry.

Will be using a multi-purpose grease for the tracks just prior to assembly into car.

This might be a stupid question, but do you have the tracks lined up correctly so as to bolt the seats in the car? They look offset to me in the pics.

Gmoney - you have a sharp my friend, yes they are 'off set' in the pics I posted, just to do some 'touch - up' to any paint chipped off during reassembly & fine tuning / new grease for tracks - took a page out of a previous thread where minor touch-up with a brush and paint in the can's lid for any scratches, etc.

I have them set to the middle of travel now - ready to reinstall.

Thanks for mentioning...

Don't know if this helps any, but I recently had the seat out in my 71 RR. I took some pics of it. See attached pic of drivers seat bottom. Looks similar to yours.

Sure does help Ronnman - if my eyes don't decieve me it sure looks like your LH seat has a hook installed too.

If the wire is too short to meet the hook, and without a guide as well, you now have to wonder, why did Mopar waste the time and money installing that hook if it is useless & obviously not needed. It's like Ma bought twice as many hooks as she needed from her supplier(s?) and paying seat assemblers to screw it into place. It's why I thought a guide was MIA.

That, and the PC calls out for 2 of the same wire for the RH bucket seats in '70 & '71, which we see from our pics differs from the LH seat wire (its shorter & assigned w/ a different part#) and since my RH seat only has the 1 wire...I was still in the dark if I needed a second.

The PC has been a challenge at times to understand - thanks guys & thanks to Moparts.

Yep, ebodyseast , you are correct it does have the hook in front. I did not see that when I changed seat covers since the wire was in place and working correctly.
