RT ramcharger hood and 440 6 pack

RT ramcharger hood and 440 6 pack - 02/15/11 06:29 AM

car has 440 single 4 barrel-ramcharger hood and ram air ducting to air cleaner.
Whena 6 pack is installed-will the ramcharger ducting still fit/align with the air cleaner so the hood still shuts properly?
I am under the impression the dual scooped ramcharger Bee/RT hood never came factory with a 440 6 pack.
I figure there is a reason that combination was not available and may be why they used the lift off hood with the 6 pack
Im talking Coronet RT

In 70 the Ramcharger hood was available with a 440-6.. just use the standard filter assembly & you'll be fine...

I think when it was optioned with air conditioning you couldn't get it, but should all fit under corrctly wether a 383/440/44-6. I think the air cleaners base was diffrent and that was for the diffrence in the height of the engine.

a six-pak with a '70 air cleaner fits perfect on my '69 r/t with the ramcharger fresh air stuff.

Yes the '70 Superbee/Coronet R/T was available with the optional 440-6 as well as the optional (standard on Hemi) Ramcharger Hood. There are two bases; one with a shield and one without but the heights are the same (unlike the 4bbl ones which had different heights for 383 vs. 440).

Ramcharger ductwork not in place yet.

I find it inteseting that the 440-6 option is not shown on the 69 Coronet options list.
I am under the impression there were some late 69 Coronet RT's built with the 440-6 pack--and some even had hinged fiberglass 6 pack hoods.
From what I have read the 69 1/2 440-6 Super Bee had a "M" as the 5th Vin character and had an E86 on the fender tag
I have also read that some of the factory 69 440-6 pack RT's still had an "L" as the 5th vin character and that the 6 pack option could be identified by coding on the fender tag.Dont know what code though--A12?--E86?
Do you experts know if that is true-or not

The only 6 packs in 69 were the A12, M code Runners and Bees. They had E63 on the F-tags - they started life as 383 cars (on the production line). They have (except for a small handfull) an "M" in their VIN.

The rest of the stuff like 69 6-Pack R/T's with hinged fiberglass hoods is a new one on me.

I don't consider myself an expert but;

- The reason the 390hp 440-6 isn't in the option brochure is that it was a mid year introduction; 1969 1/2 if you will.

- yes A12 cars had "M"s in the VIN. IIRC some very early A12's didn't have the A12 stamp on the tag.

- I've never heard of any 440-6 (A12 package) 1969 Coronet R/T's and have never heard of any factory hinged 6 pack hoods. Frankly I would bet my dwindling fortune that neither exist.

- An A12 would actually have an E63 for the standard 383 Magnum but then would show the A12 conversion and the M in the VIN.
All A12's were built at the Lynch Rd. plant

throw in
with all that said RR and GTX
like super Bees and R/Ts in 69 had to different AG/RC air cleaner bases the 383 RR/SB version had a longer neck the 440 GTX/R/Ts had a shorter neck
for a stock set up so then the factory knew they needed two differnt bases due to the B RB blocks I let the hood dowm nice and easy
FWIW
and then

Just repeating what I have read and trying to learn about these very interesting cars-this is where I seen a 69 RT represented as such;

My Chevy buddy pointed out this ad to me the other day, he knew it was bogus. So I emailed them to set the record straight, they didn't respond.

But it's got a hinged hood. Obviously it's 1 of 1!
