best place to find air cleaner?

best place to find air cleaner? - 02/05/11 12:11 AM

Trying to find an A-12 base or complete assembly.

I am sure this has been covered before, but a quick use of the "search" function did not come up with any results.

Would prefer original, but if there is a decent re-pop available, I would consider it. Trying to locate one for a friend with a real A-12 project car which is finally getting worked on.

Re: best place to find air cleaner? - 02/08/11 05:41 AM

I think 2,200.00 is TOOOO MUCH for an original air cleaner base only.
You should be able to find a Complete system (lid, base, hoses, corners, seal) for that price or less depending on the shape. I know I found one a lot cheaper then that but it took me about 4 months to find a nice one. I found mine here on moparts.
An original one will hold it's value better then the snobar one will.

I say keep looking, a Good deal will come along.

If you mean mine, sorry it's NFS, after a light blasting and repaint, it's going on my car. I am going to try and reuse the seal since I have heard bad things about the repops. A friend bought this one on eBay for me last year, they do show up every now and then.

Re: best place to find air cleaner? - 02/09/11 12:04 AM

I would say there only between 5 and 10 of these orig Air Cleaners that come up for sale every year, I have watched them sell on ebay for the past 10 years or so, prices are all over the map, but always strong.

There will be less and less of them for sale as more make their way onto cars that are being restored.

I'm lucky, I have 2, one for each of my A12s....

if you don't know the differance between a original
or a repop
how do you know what it really is you are telling me you can get????

i'm in the market,i've seen a few deals slip by
other things were more important at the time for me.
i'm ready to jump on the next deal i see
thing is i'm in no hurry so
sooner or later i will hit paydirt

snobar is out of the question for me
i wouldn't give a dime to that crook

AB&E,
Do you have one or not?? I don't care as I have one but just trying to figure out what you are saying.
You say you know of one and can buy it and you will sell but in the next sentence you say you will be bidding on e-bay to get one.
Which is it???
You can buy them reasonable yet in good to decent shape for less then 2000.

Re: best place to find air cleaner? - 02/09/11 06:49 AM

Flypaper,
Be patient and the right one will come along.
Here are 2 photos of the one I got from here on moparts.
It had everything but the lid and air cleaner and came with a New seal and a new tube of adhesive for the seal. It is in Real Nice Shape, looks to be original paint, original drains and hoses, etc.
The guy sold me a Great piece and I am Extremely Happy.
Also I bought it for less then 2000. and the prices were higher at the time when I got it.
Happy Hunting, David
p.s. I have heard good things on the fiberglass one and it's a bunch cheaper if you can live with not having an original one.

i have plenty of patience
do you see me buying the one on ebay?
i thought about it for 5 seconds
then common sense took over
the one on the bag scares me off
he has a bogus distributor on another auction
and this aircleaner has a detail or 2 missing
with a fresh coat of paint on it.
i'm not getting a warm and fuzzy here....

day2,
500 bucks for one is a dream and really an insult
to a seller..
i know what the last few for sale have gone for
and i'm willing to make a fair offer around that give or take for one.
how bad do you want to sell it?

i know i will find one sooner or later
so there is no need for me to go crazy
and get something from a ebay to moparts auction flipper like above..
i'm just in a full on hunting and gathering mode
for a bunch of junk i have

flipper of all mostly
can not blame a guy for trying to make a buck.
so you do not think the one on ebay is real
I have actually purchased a few parts from this guy
& it was good so far like I said I have aclone a12 so fiberglass base for me & install drains from sno-bar open hood liiks good just do not let anyone touch it
no harm intendeed just all in a days work

give me a brake

your as bad as the guy who see's a car on the side of the road
then you will run a ebay auction for it before you even buy it.
at least have the nads to own the part first
people hang alot on reputation around here
you just put a mark on yours for a few lousy bucks.
so as you say no harm

I have the Snobar repop A-12 lid that I bought in a Moparts group buy years ago and never used it. I also have the correct decals from ECS I bought for it. I'd let these parts go for what I paid for them years ago. Unfortunately I don't have a base.

I bought a wide lip lid for 80 dollars and I believe it to be a repop lid.
It is like brand new and Nice.
I am Ok with it as I don't know what the difference is between the two.

OE wide lip lid is much heavier so the repop is like a race version...

I would say between $1600 and $2000 depending upon the condition and what else it comes with (lid). At the height of the market I remember these things going for $2500.

Should probably read things a little closer....thanks, John...let me try this again...$90 to $125 depending upon the condition...the thickness of the metal on the repop ones is just a little thinner.

It's cool wall art,Anyway I was just wondering....The aftermarket ones are really light compared to oem probably 2/3rds the weight of a real one...Sounds like the A-12 guys are fine with the thinner chinese versions.....

This has been discussed before but never confirmed...do you have a scale to weigh yours?....curious on the weight difference between original and the repops.

Re: best place to find air cleaner? - 02/13/11 04:02 PM

Never weighed them but hold one in one hand and then pick up the other with your other hand...One is like a box of cereal and the other feels like a box of pancake mix...Not even close....
