Krylon battery protector isn't bad either, dries hard, this is what I have used in the past.

Before you reinstall them, try fitting the torsion bars back in. The bars are a tight fit even without paint..
BTW Cosmoline is still avaialble...

Here is another option this is a spray greese that dries hard. It kind of simulates the dipping process the factory used back in the day.

I actually dip mine in REAL COSMOLINE, then they look exactly like they should with darker run streaks which you can't replicate no matter what kind of "paint" you use. Dipping also provides 100% coverage which you also can't do with any other spray coating. I am actually thinking about offering this as a specialty service if anyone is interested.

Looks good Dirk.
Did you paint the color code on the "rocker" before dipping? Can't tell from the pic.

Another option...Oops...all ready mentioned..
Real cosmoline...I do all mine this way...Gets expensive to buy 5 gallons if you're only doing one set, but I've now done dozens of them to date...I like to assemble them with bushings etc..BEFORE dipping so you don't have to handle them as much...

Cosmoline,I think thats the same stuff on some of my guns and still on my guns. That stuff is sticky and nasty and if dirt or dust gets on it youll never get it off.How do you get that stuff to dry?

Re: It's not cosmoline but it's close... - 01/27/11 06:54 AM
I bought a 5 gal pail of what Shafco sells many years ago. It's worthless, way too thin, it's for spraying. I dip mine months before I need to install them in the car that way they can fully cure and not be so soft to the touch. I put the bushing and pin in after they are fully cured. The factory installed them after also. Alan, if you are doing it pre-dip how much fun is it to clean the cosm. off and make bush/pin look like it was never dipped?
Jim, on that old pair from 3 years ago I didn't have the paint dab on it then. I have seen hemi orange, blue and white for dabs now.

Original vendor on Cosmoline is Houdaille (SP).
Mc master Carr stocks it as well as some gun restoration places..
I will post a link tomorrow.

Mine. Powdercoated silver, then scuff and spray Resto Rick's Cosmoline-like paint formula. Its It has runs and is now a bit flatter than in the pic after some time. This may not be accurate but at least it is durable. Close enough for me especially since essentially nothing is stock on this car.
