A-body cardboard headliner - 01/10/11 06:50 PM

What's the best place to buy one for a 74 duster and are they all the same quality? I'll be needing one in the next couple months.

All made by the same manufacturer. We helped test fit the prototypes when they came on the markets several years ago, high quality part

How well does it replicate the originals? Is it the correct type of material?

It doesn't look like the orignal at all. It made of ABS plastic instead of cardboard and covered in a foam backed headliner material vs the originals have the vinyl heatsealed onto the board.

What? FOAM BACKED?
I have bought 4 from Year One, and none of them had the foam backing. Either there are more than one company making these or there has been a change in manufacturing.

Nope, only one manufacturer and they have been foam backed since day one.
Not sure why the YO board would not have been foam backed, as that is specifically what the board was designed to be used with as it adheres much better than straight vinyl.

So you mean that SOMEONE has been peeling the backing from these headliners before I get them?
As I wrote, 4 different headliners, in 2 shipments, 2 years apart. ALL 4 were shiny on one side and textured on the other. I'm sure that I am not the only one here. No big deal, really. I think you might benefit from knowing.

Frankenduster, you're talking about the one piece cardboard headliner? I wasn't aware that a correct one was available.

The only headliner that I am aware of that is available for 70-76 DartDemon, Dart Sport and Duster models is made of gray plastic. It is shipped in an 18"x18"x60" box after rolling it like a tube. They are to be removed from the box immediately after recieving, and left to lie flat so as to NOT take a set to the tubular form. The F O U R that I have bought fit great and looked pretty good, despite not being totally factory correct. ZERO foam backing on the ones that I bought. It may have been available, I dont remember that part. I put sound deadener above the one I put in my FrankenDuster.
Good Luck.

If it can be rolled up in a tube how in the world is it stiff enough to keep its shape once its in the car.How much was shipping on the 18x18x60 box?
I may try to save my original after hearing all of this.

I got one from Dante's about 2 months ago and it looks really nice. One of these days I'll get to the point of installing

Once it is installed, it retains a sort of "dome" shape, and is held in place with the front widshield gasket, the rear glass rubber and the trim on the sides. The roof mounted seat belt anchors help too.
Sorry, I dont recall shipping costs.
