Paint questions

I was reading the latest issue of Hemmings Muscle Machines and the article about wet sanding your finish caught my attention. My GTX has some light sanding marks under the paint. I never thought I could get them out without re spraying the car, which is not an option anytime soon. Anyway, if anybody read the article, or has some advice about wet sanding, compounding etc...I would appreciate it. I have a daily driver that is perfect for me to practice on. It's a 1990 Capice that has original paint on it. The car's been outside everyday for 20 years so the finish is basically flat white. I'd feel better if I practiced on the Caprice before doing anything to the GTX. Thanks.

Sanding marks under the paint cant help helped/fixed.
theyre in the work that was done prior to painting. I know you dont want to hear it but the paint was applied to the work before the filler and primer had time to shrink.

That's what I thought...they're very light and tough to notice, overall I think the paint is in nice shape and probably not worth the time and effort to do anything about it right now...I think I'm still gonna practice on the Caprice just for the heck of it...the car is the perfect beater and if I do any damage it truly doesn't matter.

If its single stage, non-metallic, and the paint is thick enough you can definately fix it. Block sand starting with the finest grit that will level the surface (probably about 1200-1500) and go up from there. Compound to a glass shine.

If its metallic/clear, and the clear is thick enough, you can level the top surface the same way, and minimize the visual defect, but you may still be able to see the topography of the scratches in the basecoat.

I wouldnt do any sanding on the caprice, specially if its factory paint, they basicly put just enough paint to cover not a whole lot of extra, it can be wetsanded but you need to be careful. You would be better off just wheeling it out with some compound to get the finish back.
