What do you guys do for body seams?

Where do you get good lead if you lead them?

I am not a body guy... but the best answer is still lead!

I used some stuff from Eastwood, they also have a unleaded filler that looks good.
You can also try Mc Master Carr, they have it in stock..
And,
I actualy bought a couple of sticks from the Local Sears Paint and hardware store !
The tinning butter that Easwood sells works great, made the job a lot easier..

I've got a bunch of old tire weights..... I always wondered if those melted down would be OK for body lead?

Sorry but the old tire weight lead isn't going to cut it. It has so many impurities that it will never stick properly. Even the old plumbers lead is trashy stuff. It is about the lowest grade there is and you really don't get the proper temperature control that you will get when using the real 30/70 body lead. You need the exact ratio of tin for it to behave well enough to adhere to the properly tinned surface. Pretty neat stuff really. When done right you can still bump the metal around to fine tune it as you metal finish to get the surface right where you want it. Lets see you do that with plastic filler! Most body shop supply stores sell the real deal. Hang on to your wallet though, the last sticks I got were $24 per pound.

No they are not but
Going rate for them is $0.80-$1.00 a pound plus shipping in a large flat rate box.
Guys buy them to cast fishing weights and slow bullets as well as old toy lead moulds.
Doing a quick serch for moulds nets you some crazy stuff.
Lead army men moulds ect.
Let little johnny play with lead army men and stick them in his mouth.
Lots of old moulds for many things are still bought/sold and collected.
{ie} many other hobbies out there

My dad always used the old tire weights for making fishing lures. Very cheap and plentiful. The last Cuda body that I did used close to four 1 pound sticks of 30/70 per side up on the roof sail area to make them perfect. Of course the factory never took that amount of time to finish them out exact but I wanted this Black Hemi Cuda to be straight as can be. JC.

Haven't bought any in years, but you used to be able to purchase it at your automotive paint store. They should also carry the flux that you will need.
