Re: Paint code for the red on finish panel - 10/19/1008:19 AM
Greg the one you posted is too red IMO and I think my recently restored '68 road runner finish panel is just a little too red also (attached). I have a photo of this one which is the original from my car and restored and two other un-restored originals finish panels and you can see the originals are less red and more maroon. I wish mine was more maroon so that it was closer to the color of the tail lights. I think the original intent of the color was to make it appear to be a continuation of the tail lights so IMO it should be a darker red or maroon color.

regardless of the slight color difference (which I okayed btw) Mr belvedere did an absolutely AWESOME restoration job on a finish panel that was in really bad shape with dents and pits, and shouldn't even have been attempted, Mark is amazing

Mike, Thanks for the Photos. I was hoping Metro would finish up their repop before I needed one, but it doesnt look like they are ready yet.. anyway, I have a decent one I bought 15 years ago and it could stand a fresh coat of paint and new decal.. It is an original piece and does look Maroon, the same as your originals..

That color is the same Maroon color on some NOS parts I bought for my fathers 69 Sport Fury. It's on the Taillights and tail panel,I agree it is not red....

If you had a photo of that trunk lid and it had a finish panel, ??? Like this one.. I dont think it is original tho, because there is paint on the taillight casting.

there is a stripe kit available for the '68 GTX, if for nothing else you could find someone with one that can have the paint mixed to match the decal. the decal comes in multi parts so you only need to take the portion that adheres to the tail light bezel. I may have some of the decal left over if anyone needs help with it. anyway thats how I would approach it.
