Helping a friend with his restoration of a '71 Charger Superbee. Neither of us know the proper name of this piece. It is bolted to the floor near the differential area.

Thanks. I will tell him it's a 'boom' eliminator.
I suppose, it eliminates the 'boom' of full throttle shifts since the car is a 4-speed. This is my first post to this section, I usually read Race Only section, but figured this section would give us better knowledge on this particular topic. Thanks again. FRED

I'VE WONDERED WHAT THIS WAS FOR AWHILE! I HAVE (2) 71SE'S (3) R/T'S (3) SUPPER BEE'S AND I ONLY FOUND THIS ON MY SUNROOF CAR! SO I FIGURED IT WAS TO DO WITH THAT SOME HOW! WHEN WERE THESE ADDED?

I have zero experience with that part, but the first thing I thought was that it looked very similar to the vibration dampner usually mounted to the rear-end assembly of some cars.
Later model 5.0 Mustangs (79-93) with 8.8 rears use something similar. Racers chuck them for a weight savings.

When he carried it into my shop to glassbead it, he asked what it was. I thought it was off the transmission tailshaft at first. Then I realized it was too big. That's when I said "I don't know".
I hate to say that! NOW we all know. Thanks again FRED

I have one of those from a 71 satellite with a 318 auto.
